From the Principal

Dear Parents,

Over the past few newsletters, I have been sharing the school’s ‘Vision for the Child’ with you. This graphic illustrates the focus areas on which we are concentrating on developing and nurturing a strong program in the school for teaching and learning.

This week we look at wellbeing. While we have always understood the importance of recognising a student’s wellbeing as essential to their learning, we have paid particular attention to this in the last two or so years. If a child feels safe at school the richer and deeper their learning will be.

The establishment of a wellbeing room, regular wellbeing columns in the newsletter and programs addressing emotional and social wellbeing are just some of the initiatives which have addressed this area. We are certainly grateful to the P. & F. for the funds given to us to furnish the wellbeing room.

Gathering of data is also very important to understand the needs of the students and several surveys are undertaken each year. The analysis of this data guides the decisions which we make to further strengthen the program.

It is our desire and our aim through this focus on wellbeing to assist students to feel safe but also to develop a range of social and emotional skills, to be able to have a growth mindset, to be resilient and to have a range of strategies which they can use in their interactions and relationships with others.

We are beginning to see changes in the students right across the school as we observe student’s behaviour and analyse data from student surveys to see how they are responding to the programs in place.  We pray that our students will continue to grow emotionally and socially.

Blessings,

Shane
