Term 2

Basketball

On Tuesday all the Yr 7 & 8 students in the specialist basketball program travelled to Maribyrnong to participate in a friendly competition. Here are some reflections of the day:

The tournament was a great experience for all of us and the players played extremely well and had a fun time playing against the rival school Maribyrnong College. We all played as a big team and Max Saltalamacchia played extremely well, dropping 20 points in the last..

Oliver Steding Yr 7

The Year 7 and 8 Basketball students in the Specialist Sports Program, had a wonderful day at the Maribyrnong College Sports Academy.  Our students played some friendly matches providing some valuable match play and providing an ability to work on both technical and tactical areas of the game.

The games were varied and overall, our teams competed very well, proving quite competitive.  While we didn’t keep scores it was exciting to see our younger athletes compete against some of the best players in the state.  We as a coaching group found a lot of areas we can now work on and develop for the future.  A successful day all round!!

Netball

It’s been a busy Term 2 in the SSP Netball Program as we continue to raise the standards of our court session and S&C.

We have moved into understanding and implementing systems on court to assist in deepening understanding of each position's role and purpose at different times. This will be a continued focus for the rest of the term. We will also be introducing coding and match analysis with the focus on the benefit of systems on set plays.

We have had year 9 students Ella and Jorja involved in the SSP Netball Program as student mentors who are learning to facilitate drills, and impact and influence the group as positive role models. They are doing a sensational job and their presence is enjoyed by the group. It has been great to watch their capacity in coaching develop and their enthusiasm has had a positive impact on all. Well done girls.
