Volleyball Interschool Practice
We had the pleasure of taking two teams for badminton interschool sports and the group were so excited to be representing the school in one of their favourite sports. Everyone played fantastically and continually improved throughout the day. Northcote won games against William Ruthven Secondary College 6-0. They also won against Thornbury High School 4-2. The efforts they put in got themselves into the final against Reservoir High School. It was really fantastic to watch some really skilled rallies and games from our students. Against Reservoir High School the score was close but we lost 4-2 games. Still the group were really happy with the efforts!

Congratulation to our Yr 7 Boys Football team who won all of their matches in the Darebin Divisional Competition. The boys have now qualified to play regionals which is to be played on July 28. Thank you to our students coaches Eliza Saligari and Sam Evans.
After entering 2 girls teams and 1 boys team, we only managed a squad of 15 players on the day of the tournament in the last week of term 2. This didn’t seem to bother our squad or Year 11 coaches Sophie Hetherington and Mia Ison who rotated our players around over 11 games. Our players showed great determination and flexibility in fielding full teams for all 11 games. The A girls tournament was very even between Preston, Thornbury, Reservoir, Lalor and us. We lost 7-6 to eventual winners Preston in a nail biting, high pressure and exciting game. Rosie Cantwell dominated her games and led the scoring across all of the schools. Our B girls and Boys team both finished second in their tournaments. We all like to win, but our players and wonderful coaches had such a great day rotating on and off the court over 4 hours.
Mr. Price
At the end of last term we had an incredible day on the track for the senior girls footy. Debutant dual athlete Riley Magee made an immediate impact running of the bench and laying a bone shattering bump which got her team in the game. Northcote kicked the first goal of the game against Mt Ridley, thanks to an impressive tackle and set shot by Martina. Northcote continued to dominate with Eva and Maya in the engine room getting the ball moving forward. Molly dominated early brushing off the attempted tackles of Mt Ridley players, but unfortunately was struck by injuryv shortly after. In the second half, we saw an impressive performance from Mia in the ruck, who dominated both at ground level and in the air. Claudia’s hands were strong off the half back, not letting Mt Ridley make good use of the gale winds, and Nessa and Elyse held firm as a last line of defence and not let Mt Ridley score a major. Halfway through the second half the play of the day happened when a tumbling ball fell deep into Northcote's forward fifty, a hard ball get and swift handball from Beatrice was able to meet the ever ready hands of Frankie to get Northcote's second major score of the board.
Coming off the break, fuelled by the nourishing snacks provided by Lulu. Northcote was ready to fire against a dominant Montmorency, who held many a draftable player, however this did not faze our strong Northcote team, who headed into the game with determination. Ella dominated in the midfield laying some insane tackles. Maddie De Bondt held strong in the ever bombarded backline, always looking to exit wide and find wing target Amelie, who took on the game and help gain Northcote some ground. Rose B in her iconic white shorts was visible from every corner of the oval as she dominated in spoils. Sophie Hargreaves stood tall in the forward line while Sophie Hetherington spent most of the game on the bench. Rose S stood tall at the other end of the ground taking some impressive intercept marks. Vic dominated at ground level and Hannah was a strong forward presence, but unfortunately all this wasn’t enough to take down the power that was Montmorency. Special mention to Zoe who came down and cast her footy wisdoms over the team and Rosie who goal umpired very well even calling a goal against Northcote, as a point to guarantee a less embarrassing loss. And of course, all of the staff who came to help and encourage.

We are so proud of our 9 students who qualified to compete in the State Cross Country event which was held at Yarra Glen Race Course. To qualify to compete at this level is such an amazing achievement. From a spectators point of view the new venue was fantastic as we were able to see all of our competitors as they were making their way around the course, and were able to cheer them on as they came down the home straight. An amazing effort by all of our students. Natasha Gurtler was crowned State Champion for her age group after coming in first. After a nervous wait with results, our 15 Yr Girls team came home with a silver medal each – the team consisted of Olive Nicholson, Camille Roche, Grace Whitty and Madz Doughty. Our junior boys team also did well – James Gordon, Lewis Nowicki, Knox Pain and Max Petoe.
