Student Services : Wellbeing

Welcome back:

We hope you enjoyed a restful winter break and had some time to reflect on a busy Term 2. COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses are still very present within the community, so please take care of yourselves and get tested if you have symptoms.

We have some exciting things planned for this term, please see below for more information.

Tuning in to Teens- Parenting Program:

We have commenced the first group of the parenting program ‘Tuning in to Teens’ which will run for 6 consecutive weeks on a Thursday evening. Megan (Student Wellbeing Coordinator) and Tess (Secondary School Nurse) will facilitate this online.

We have had an overwhelming expression of interest and look forward to continuing to deliver this program over time.

Breakfast Club:

After a delayed start, Breakfast Club will be commencing Week 3 in G1 and run every Monday morning from 8:30am. Having breakfast has been shown to have a positive impact on factors such as physical and mental health, social skills, concentration, behaviour, attendance, and academic outcomes.

Thank you to the students who have volunteered to be on the Breakfast Club committee and assist with running the program.

We look forward to seeing you there to start the week with a healthy and tasty breakfast.

International Non-Binary People’s Day- Thursday 14th July:

Last Thursday was International Non-Binary People’s Day, a day to celebrate those who are non-binary, the rich diversity of gender, and celebrate people who do not fit into a binary gender. At Northcote High School, we have a Rainbow Club for members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community. Please see the wellbeing team for more information about Rainbow Club.

New Mental Health Practitioner (MHP) - Welcome Jane:

Hello everyone! My name is Jane, and I am the new Mental Health Practitioner here at Northcote High School. I am a Mental Health Accredited Social Worker and have worked in lots of different places and with different client groups, although this is my first time working in a school. I feel very excited and privileged to be here at such a great school. I am looking forward to meeting you and becoming part of the school community.”

Students can see Jane for free and confidential counselling at school. To discuss whether a MHP referral would be helpful for you, please contact your student wellbeing coordinator, or phone the student wellbeing team on 9488 2321.
