Year 7 Hummanities
Year 7 ACE Humanities - Ancient Egypt
To finish off term 2 the year 7 ACE classes applied their learning from the term on Ancient Egpyt and completed their own research based task, creating a representation of this learning in their own creative ways. Please read some of their reflections below and see examples of the work they created, and the two classes coming together to discuss and reflect on their learning.
TatjanaTo give you an insight into the ACE program, late last term 7I and 7J joined together to share what they had learnt while studying Ancient Egypt. From tomb-raiding, to hieroglyphics, their diet and gruesome capital punishment. For example, children were dismembered and burned alive for murder. The reason why we went into such deep detail studying Ancient Egypt is to understand life five thousand years ago and see what we can do to improve our modern society. If we are still supporting the death penalty, then we are probably too similar to a society whose teeth rotted because there was sand in their bread. So when you study history you can analyse our customs and traditions and the ACE classes combined did an impressive job.
Gabe As part of their final humanities CAT for Semester 1, students embarked upon a creation based on Ancient Egypt. Students formed posters, videos, paper sculptures, songs, and even roleplays! Then, in a makeshift gallery walk, 7I & 7J presented their creations to each other. Many laughs were shared, and knowledge was passed on to others as they browsed the rooms - all in all, “it was a very educational experience,” said a member of 7I following the gallery walk.

Last term, in humanities, we focused on ancient Egypt and learned about the culture and practices of that time. We learned about the hierarchy of ancient Egypt, how people's lives were and traditions. The first CAT was to analyze sources of evidence about who built the pyramids. We also made posters and creations about certain topics of ancient egypt. We taught our peers about hieroglyphics, the religion of Egypt, tombs and pyramids, mummification and tomb raiders. We then shared our projects with the other ace class. The creations in both rooms were educational and intriguing. There was everything from songs to 3-d posters. It was more interesting and enjoyable than a powerpoint or word document. Both classes learned much and enjoyed the experience.
