Principals Report

Rohan Cooper

Term 2 has been a whirlwind! Just nine weeks in all, our students have been engaged in high-quality learning across our school, as we have also been able to return to many of the activities and events we enjoyed prior to the challenging past couple of years. To conclude the term, I would like to share a variety of news across our school.

Student Reports and Parent-Teacher Interviews

You will have received student reports for your child/ren yesterday via Compass. These reports reflect student achievement across the term and identify future learning goals for Semester 2. At the beginning of Term 3, you will receive information regarding parent-teacher interviews, to be conducted during the week beginning 25th July. This is an opportunity to discuss your child’s report with their teacher.

Staffing Updates

Three members of our teaching team have secured transfer positions:

  • Congratulations to Sasha Goss, who has accepted a transfer position for Terms 3 and 4 to Karoo Primary School.
  • Congratulations to Janelle Sammut, who has accepted an ongoing position at John Fawkner College.
  • Congratulations to Haylie Saarinen, who has accepted a maternity-leave position at Grovedale Primary School.

We welcome Wendy Ward into Sasha’s position as a classroom teacher in 1DE, whilst Tania Drummond joins us to back-fill a part-time role in 1BC, as well as joining the STEM team and spending each Friday in Grade 5, whilst Alex McLeod undertakes her leadership roles in assessment, data and reporting.

‘Safe Schools’

In our weekly ‘professional learning’ session this week, we had the DETs ‘Safe Schools’ team present to us. The focus of this is to assist schools in supporting students who identify as LGBTIQA+. The Safe Schools team help schools to identify evidence-based and age-appropriate information to help prevent and respond to bullying and discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity or intersex status.

We continue to prioritise inclusion, diversity and safety at our school and this is reflected in the range of programs we engage with. As well as our work with the ‘Safe Schools’ team, we also:

  • Focus on personal development through our relationship with The Resilience Project.
  • Learn how to look after our friends and ‘call-out’ negative behaviours through the ‘Upstanders’ program.
  • Promote and model respect, as well as positive attitudes and behaviours, through the ‘Respectful Relationships’ program.

Cup-Cake Stall

With a huge thanks to Rachel Derrick and her team, our PFA ran a hugely-successful cup-cake stall earlier this week. Our students were delighted to enjoy the broad range of baked goods kindly donated by our wonderful school community. Proceeds from this event will go towards funding air-conditioning in our new Grade 5/6 learning space, as well as through our new administration building.

Thank you for your ongoing support this term. Have a safe, happy and healthy holiday period and I look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 11th July.

Rohan.
