Grade 4

 Year 4 Students & Teachers

Dear Port Melbourne Community,

Year 4 have been investigating forces in Inquiry. We have learnt about a variety of forces, such as contact, non-contact, push and pull. We have used materials such as marbles, marble runs, toy cars, magnets, compass, springs and a range of balls to conduct experiments and investigate our predictions.  We also looked at gravity and friction and inquired about the impact these have on force and an object, for example, ‘do marbles or toy cars create more friction?’ or ‘What impact does gravity have on a falling bouncy ball vs a basketball?’

When conducting our experiments, we partnered up and wrote the aim of our investigation, our hypothesis, the materials needed and the method we would follow. We then wrote about our findings in the results part of our scientific report and finished by writing a summary for our conclusion. Our next steps are to look at the effects heat has on an object, where we will conduct experiments using water, insulation and lots more!
