Holy Cross happenings

Last Friday one of our school captains, Hanna Visagie, shared a presentation with our school community that she spent a lot of time preparing.

The topic was very special to Hanna as it was about a genetic condition, Sickle Cell disease, that Hanna was born with. Hanna was able to explain to us how the condition affects her and the things she can do to help deal with her condition.

It was helpful for the children to understand why Hanna needs to wear a face mask at school and why she has to stay inside when it is cold.

Hanna also invited the founder of the  Australian Sickle Cell Advocacy group, to support her and answer any questions. We would like to thank Agnes for giving her time and also donating a book for our library, along with hand sanitisers and carry bags.

Hanna’s  presentation coincided with the World Sickle Cell Awareness Day on June 19th which Hanna is the Australian child ambassador for.

END OF TERM FUN!

What a lovely way to end the term, there was a lot of colour, a lot of smiles and lots of fun!

One of our more competitive activities would have to be the game of ‘Rock, Paper and Scissors’ Preps were up against Grade 6’s and all combinations of Year levels. The smiles, fun and encouragement was priceless! Maybe have a game with your children over the holidays.

There were also some amazing drawings, bookmarks and lego creations, and some very flexible children taking part in yoga.

We also heard some of our Preps and Year 1’s at recess talking about using the computers in the Year 4 classrooms! Ask your children how they went with their ‘Kahoot” about animals.

Thank you to our SRC for organising our splash of purple today to raise awareness for epilepsy , thank you to our families for supporting us to raise $285 for this worthy cause.
