Aoife's News

Dear Families,

Despite the continued challenges of COVID and cases of the flu we have managed to keep classes running throughout Semester One. We are grateful for the support of our families during Term One and Term Two as we worked through staff and student illness.

Staff acknowledgement

Thank you to our Holy Cross staff who have been open to professional development opportunities which challenge our practice. We have been working hard as a team to develop our skills in gathering and analysing data. Subsequently our staff have been implementing small targeted teaching groups in literacy and numeracy which meet the specific learning needs of our children. Staff have also been gathering each Tuesday morning to connect with one another and share strategies for our Getting Ready to Learn routines. Getting Ready to Learn is a school wide practice, based on the Berry St Model of Education, which supports the wellbeing of our children. I am appreciative of staff striving to place children at the centre of all that we do at Holy Cross, as we envisioned as a team in December 2021.

Prep 2023 Enrolment interviews

We met with many prospective new families and children over the last two weeks. Offers of enrolment will be issued today. If your family or friends have yet to submit an enrolment form please advise them to do so ASAP. Any further places for 2023 will be offered in alignment with our Enrolment policy.

New Child Safe Standards

As stated in our last newsletter new child safety standards will be implemented across all schools from July 1st 2022. If you would like further information on these standards and how they apply across the wider community please visit the Commission for Children and Young People website

Parent/Teacher chats - Term 3

Parent/teacher chats will be held on Monday 25th and Tuesday 26th July. This is an opportunity for parents and teachers to discuss your child’s growth and to discuss ‘where to next’ for Semester Two. The booking code was sent out via Operoo this week. We encourage all families to book in for a chat so that we can partner together for our children.

Year 4B - update

Sheree Sullivan will continue to teach Year 4B in Semester Two as Brian Coughlan has extended his leave. We wish Brian a relaxing and happy time. We are very grateful that Sheree will be with us next term.

Year 3B - update

Karina Romania will commence extended leave from next term. Amy Cavanagh and Tracey McKenna will teach the class for the rest of the year.

School Closure days - Term 3

We will have two school closure days in Term 3. On both days staff will be given the opportunity to engage in professional learning in the area of Mathematics. This is in alignment with our School Improvement Plan 2022-2025. Staff will be challenged to enter into new learning experiences in maths. They will then apply this knowledge to practice, followed by analysing the impact of their teaching through data informed reflection.

We have set the dates as:

Friday 12th August

Friday 16th September

Schools Out will be available for families who wish to use this service on both dates. We are appreciative of your support as our staff enter into these professional development opportunities.

Wishing you all a relaxing and happy break. Looking forward to seeing everyone back safe and sound next term.
