Ms O'Connor

This week in RE and Inquiry we have been investigators, collaborators and designers. Our focus has been on ‘Caring for Our Common Home’ and we have linked this to our Inquiry focus on ‘The Big Blue Marble’.

Our task was to focus on an Australian landscape and collaboratively design and create a poster that explored information about our landscape and ways that we are called to look after it. We chose to focus on iconic Australian landscapes, and these were the Simpson Desert, Great Barrier Reef, Daintree Rainforest, and our bush areas in the Gippsland region.

The process allowed students to follow their curiosities about their area and they were then able to identify environmental issues affecting their landscape. From this we found that we are called to action and need to highlight ways to protect and care for these areas. Our students were very passionate about finding ways to care for this, and we identified that we all have a part to play in preserving our environment and caring for our ‘common home’.

The students were extremely engaged and we had a fantastic time putting our heads together and connecting our ideas and interests using the pedagogy of encounter.
