Michaelmas House News

Socialising
As adults, we know and recognise the importance of interaction with others on a face-to-face basis. It is our role to make sure that children have ample time away from screens and technology after a busy day in the classroom. At 4.30pm Monday to Thursday, technology is handed in to ensure time outside bedrooms and away from screens, before the children once again require their laptops for prep at 6.30pm. The boys usually head off on a bike ride or to the cricket nets and it is lovely to see the girls come out from behind closed doors and mingle around the kitchen bench or sit outside in the fresh air chatting. The same applies on a Saturday and Sunday morning when it is encouraged to have a sleep in and rise to a lovely home-cooked breakfast of bacon and eggs or waffles. Then it is time to chill out, or perhaps join a recreation activity that has been organised to get everyone out and about.
Footy Tipping
Footy tipping has once again commenced in Michaelmas House and we have many takers striving to win the weekly prize of a block of chocolate. Riley won Round One, Mr Colgate who won Round Two graciously gave up his prize to runner-up, Blair Ball and Round Three went to Brent Crowley.
Leadership Group
Our leadership group has grown from one to three, with Kaleb Germain representing the wonderful group of Year Seven boys and Brianna Harris assisting Isobel Hannig and the delightful Year Eight girls. We look forward to a cohesive and enjoyable year with our mighty trio.
In-House Dinners
We enjoy having in-house dinners and have stepped it up with setting the table with placemats, vases of flowers and faux flickering votive candles. It is a special time when we all sit together and enjoy each other’s company, it being much quieter than the bigger numbers in the dining hall.
Birthdays
We celebrated Brianna’s birthday on Sunday 7 April and wish Bethany a happy birthday during the school holidays on 20 April.
In Closing
Peter and I, along with the wonderful staff in Michaelmas House, Miss Ortiz, Mrs Freeman and Mrs Smith, take this opportunity to wish all boarders and families a happy, safe holiday and a wonderful Easter. We look forward to a fantastic second term with your child.

Leaders' Report
On Thursday 14 March, Miss Ortiz organised a self-care night for the girls of Michaelmas House. It started off with us sitting on the couches in a circle with a bag of presents in the middle. Miss Ortiz then came around and we had a lucky dip. Inside the parcels were socks and an eye mask. We then sat in a circle on the floor with our pillows. Miss Ortiz told us to put our eye masks on and then paired us up. Whilst we were paired, we shared two general things that we didn’t like and two we did like. We sat in a circle again and relaxed whilst listening to calming music. When we felt relaxed, Miss Ortiz gave us two pieces of paper with two different names and we wrote a paragraph about what we liked about them. We then shared what had been written, the author being anonymous. Afterwards, we ate cake. Overall, we thought it was a great idea and we loved it.
