Endeavour House News

Birthdays
A term has gone by already and we have all settled in to the boarding family that is Endeavour. We celebrated our first boarding birthday with Xanthe and enjoyed an icecream cake together. Amber and Madi had already had their birthdays in January before we started the school year, a belated birthday wish to them both. Happy birthday to Faith and Lily who celebrate their birthdays during the April school holidays.
Year Eight Camp
Year Eight camp was a great experience for six of our girls and they returned exhausted but happy. Whilst the girls were on camp, the Year Seven group went out to dinner at Due South, this was a lovely night of good food and good company. Our Year Nine girls enjoyed Outward Bound and came back to us in one piece, they were dirty, hungry and didn’t smell as good as usual, however had huge smiles and a lot of great adventures to share.
Afternoon Tea
In Week Six we enjoyed the Endeavour afternoon tea, it was lovely to invite friends and family to have a cuppa and a catch up with them. A tour of Endeavour was included for many of the visitors and Ms Simpson, Head of Year Seven came along for a cuppa and a scone, some girls invited their peer support person and we even had a day friend attend. We plan on having a second afternoon tea in Term Three, this is a nice way of inviting people to Endeavour that may not have been in before and making our house a home.
Room Allocation
There has been a lot of talk in Endeavour over the past two weeks of Term Two room allocations for Year Sevens. Year Eight and Nine girls are staying in their single rooms for the year. As we only have four Year Seven single rooms, we decided it would be fair to rotate through these rooms so that everyone that wants to can have a term in a single room. All our Year Seven girls were asked to put a request in for their preference of roommate or single room, nearly all of these requests were able to be met and hopefully we have happy roommates for Term Two. On Wednesday night under the capable watch of Miss Enoch and Miss Miller, Year Seven girls changed rooms, there was lots of laughter and chatter, the job complete, they have had two nights in their new room.
Academic Support
At GSG we are fortunate that out students are able to access after school help from teachers in the form of academic support. We would like to encourage the Endeavour boarders to attend once a week, and will be looking for a day that can be individually timetabled for them to attend. As encouragement, for those students that attend Academic Support at least six times in Term Two, we are going to offer a pizza night at the end of term. Please discuss this with your boarder over the holidays to see which night will work around sporting and other commitments. The academic support timetable is available on MyGSG.
Recreation
We have an Endeavour rule that the girls must participate in a recreation activity on the weekend, this is to encourage our boarders to be active. It is well researched that for good mental and physical health we need to keep active, part of our role as supervisors is to ensure that we encourage our Endeavour young ladies to participate in recreational opportunities and socialising in boarding. The weekend duty supervisor often goes on the recreation activity with the boarders and Endeavour is locked, the remaining students are required to go to another house to be supervised, if this is the case a note will be left on the door.
Head Lice
As you are all aware we have been treating head lice all term, with twenty nine girls in one house, it is very difficult to keep on top of. We have discussed with the girls not to share hair brushes or hats, keep hair tied up and to not use other students pillows. Our supervisors have met with the nurse and made a plan for Term Two, If you could all please check for head lice over the holidays, treat if necessary and ensure your boarder returns to Endeavour head lice and egg free. Your help in this matter is much appreciated. For information regarding how to check for and treat head lice, please click here
Leaders Report
This term has been a bumpy ride with lots of ups and downs. Term One started off with lots of recreation activities such as Master Chef, beach trips and roller skating, thanks to Mr Goggins for organising these opportunities and also the bus drivers.
This term we also had the Ride-A-Thon, this year was different than usual we added chalk powder, silly string and water to change it up a bit. This year it was fabulous with lots of people participating and there was a range of years either riding or throwing the chalk, silly string or water. Thanks to Tamika Arundel for organising teams and the event.
To put the term to an end we had the Eclipse Social, this was the perfect way to showcase our vision to bring Senior and Junior houses together. We all had lots of fun and had very sore feet with even a few blisters.
This term to us was a big success with all the new boarders settling in well.

Gap Assistant Report
I have thoroughly enjoyed my first term as the Endeavour Gap Assistant. Getting to know all of the girls has been a pleasure and watching the new Year Seven and Eight girls come out of their shells has been brilliant. Endeavour is a lovely home environment, with frequent requests for new baked goods and endless hours of card games, it has been busy to say the least! However, I wouldn’t change a thing and I am looking forward to my second term.
Miss Amber Enoch | Gap Assistant
Keep your eye out for next terms first Boarding Buzz report from Miss Miller who is with us for the whole year, Miss Enoch is heading back to the United Kingdom at the end of Term Two.
We hope you have an enjoyable and safe break with your family and look forward to seeing you all next term.
