Anchorage House News

End of Term
It was such a busy end of term for the Anchorage House boys. It’s an active house and the boys have really made the most of the good weather and opportunities presented to them, both in boarding and the day school.
Middle School Leadership
Congratulations to Hamish Medway (Eight B), Pierce Newman (Eight D)and Darcy Barrett (Eight C) for being elected class leaders. It’s a great achievement to have three out of the four boy leaders coming from Anchorage House. They join Daniel Fisher and Fletcher Cugley who have also been leaders previously.
A special mention to Pierce Newman, who is class leader for the second time since being at GSG.
Sport News
Varied sporting opportunities have been well utilised by the boys this term. The Anchorage boys made up a significant number of the three Year Eight Grammar basketball teams, two of which played finals on the weekend. No luck for either team on the day, but the endeavour was certainly there. I particularly liked Darcy’s shot at goal while lying on his back after being knocked over. Well done also to the two Year Nine teams who also made finals. Particular mention is made of Callum Frost, Benjamin Hawley and Harrison Dolan who played their first season of basketball and came so far in their playing ability.
Each Wednesday and Friday morning at 5.30am, Mr Laudien or myself, get up to turn the alarms off. This is so the rowers can get away to their morning training up the Kalgan River. There is a real buzz when the boys come back to the house. They are obviously getting a lot out of it.
At the Summer Sports presentations, four Anchorage boys received awards:
Hamish Medway: Coach Award, Kings
Bailey Peacock: Most Valuable Player, Hawks
Fletcher Cugley: Coach Award, Hornets
Kaden Patterson (absent): Most Valuable Player, Kings
Congratulations, boys!
Mobile Phones
Some of the boys have requested that the phone hand-in time be extended to allow enough time to call home, shower and have supper after prep on weeknights. This was a reasonable request and Year Eight boarders now have until 8.45pm to hand in their phones, Monday-Thursday.
Thanks to all parents and guardians for your support in our first term of the year. I wish you all a very nice holiday with your boys home.

Leaders' Report
The year so far is flying, with everyone having fun and looking forward to the holidays. On Friday 5 April we held a boarding social in Eclipse House. Everyone had great fun catching up with people from different Houses and getting in the mosh pit and dancing.
A big congratulations to all the Grammar Boarding teams that got to the basketball grand finals.
So far this term, everyone has had great fun at recreation activities including swimming at Middleton Beach, Greens Pool (where we jumped off Bomby Rock), Emu Point, rollerskating, stand-up paddle boarding and fishing. We all look forward to more recreation activities that are just as fun. We’re also looking forward to the Winter sport coming up next term. I hope everyone has a fun, safe and enjoyable holiday with family and friends.
Matthew Lamont | Year Nine
