From the Boarding Captains

From Isabella

Boarding has been continually busy, as the end of term draws near. Test results are coming back providing the opportunity to reflect on how well we understand what is being taught. There are many opportunities for boarders to improve their grades with the help of tutors who attend during prep time each night. This is the chance to ask for help and do homework in the presence of someone who can help. Academic support after school is also useful as a means of getting the support of your teachers.

A new initiative called the Marsh Award has been introduced into boarding to recognise boarders who are demonstrating the values of the Boarding Pillars. The four Boarding Pillars are: Self; Service; Spirituality; and School. They represent the criteria for boarders to achieve this award. This could involve going on recreation activities, doing community service or even doing clean up when someone is away. I challenge all boarders to be their best selves and strive to achieve a Marsh Award this year.

Levi and I hope all boarders and their families have a safe, relaxing holiday and don’t eat too much chocolate! We have thoroughly enjoyed Term One as Boarding Captains and are excited for what is ahead in the next term.

From Levi

As the first term finishes and we finally get to go back home and relieve ourselves from the stresses of school life, we get time to reflect upon the first ten weeks of our 2019 boarding journey. Term One being arguably the toughest term with returning back to school and coping with the routine stress of assessments and leaving behind the peaceful and relaxing holidays, has been handled with ease.

As I walk from Eclipse House to school each morning it is great to see the integration between both the new and old boarders. The confidence growth in the new boarders has been tremendous. From shy people who isolated themselves with only their year group or hometown friends to now where they mix with any year group confidently. As for recreation, the activities are only getting better with time. The past week we have has the annual Eclipse social involving all five houses, and consisted of intense mosh pitting, snags and lots of laughs and friends.

Bella and I wish you all a happy and safe holiday and look forward to improving boarding even more next term.
