P to the E with Leigh

Physical Education

The focus for this term for Foundation, Year One, and Two will be consolidating basic skills and hand eye coordination. The younger children now have the confidence to try new skills and build their social understandings in PE. I will be supporting their progression and preparing for more team games through building social resilience.

The Year 3/4s have been practicing striking skills playing cricket and have also started trials for athletics running events. Some students have been part of the school basketball team training at lunchtime which includes a rookie side and a school representative side. Fitness has become a focus of ours this year with lots of the students practicing and learning about running and building their aerobic capacity.

The Year 5/6 students have just started their winter sports of AFL, Soccer, Newcombe and Netball. The Inter School Sports provides a competitive competition against schools in the Northcote District. The trials for athletics have started with beginning trials for long jump and 100m sprint. This will continue throughout term two and finish with District Athletics Day in third term. We have also been training for the District Cross Country with the school sending 50 representative students.
