Year 1/2–Celebrating Learning

Our 1/2 mainstream classes have hit the ground running this term. We have been very busy learning about poetry, addition and subtraction strategies, flying deep into the world of reading, and also learning about our family histories.
Steiner class one has been busy learning about The Four Processes. This will be followed by a writing Main Lesson, focusing on Nature Stories to introduce sentence structures. We will finish off the term with a Local Surroundings Main Lesson, focusing on weather and the seasons.
Steiner Class Two is currently working on their Celtic Narratives Main Lesson. The children are having lots of fun reading Padraic Colum's Irish Folk Tale, The King of Ireland's Son. On Friday they were fortuitous to have an Irish tin whistle playing Celtic storytelling CRT, Stuart, for their last session which the children all loved. They are continuing to master a variety of simple phonic patterns through word families, (why isn't phonics spelt with an f ?), further building a bank of sight words and between the combination of these twin processes students continue to develop word attack skills.
