School Council

Kii TPS community!

Enjoy our new newsletter and send us your feedback. Special thanks to the Comms Team for getting this going.

Last Monday’s TPS school council met on Monday May 13th. It was a busy meeting, but with lots of positive outcomes. At this meeting we discussed and motioned the following.

  • Setting up and school holiday program at TPS. We are aiming for the July school holidays if possible. More details when we have confirmed the arrangements.
  • TPS uniform policy and suppliers (see separate paragraph below)
  • After a long process, 4 years in the making and fundraising, the landscaping around the Babajen shade sail area will begin during the July school holidays. A full description of the works will be given in the next newsletter.
  • The first TPS Koorie T.I.M.E. music scholarship has been granted for instrumental music tuition.
  • A proposal was accepted to establish Auslan (Australian Sign Language) classes for parents at TPS. This will support members of the TPS student and parent community who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Work on the TPS Deadly hoodie continues, with ideas in from the students being put together for the final design. We aim to get these hoodies out to the community as soon as possible, most likely term 3.

It’s election day this Saturday so whether you’ve voted yet or not, don’t forget to pop in to TPS for a democracy sausage, vegan included. There will also be sweet treats, craft items, indigenous plants, veggies and herbs for sale. This is an important fundraiser for TPS. This year’s fundraising focus is the Kitchen Garden Classroom space which all students will benefit from. Encourage your neighbours and friends to vote at TPS too.

Uniform

Thank you to all the parents who took part in the uniform survey last year.  The results of the survey showed strong support for retaining a uniform at TPS along the lines of the current uniform.  Key issues were ensuring natural fibre options remain, seeking maximum affordability, transitioning to the new logo, flexibility to account for individual and family situations, and ethical manufacturing.

The School Council has been reviewing the data collected and, together with staff, developing the school uniform policy.  While developing the policy we are reviewing uniform supply and manufacture and we are developing options to facilitate second hand uniform swaps/sales.

While all this work is going on – particularly the logo transition – there might be short term uniform shortages.  We hope that this will be avoided.  Please approach anyone on School Council if you have specific concerns about this.

If you want to assist in relation to school uniform policy and/or facilitating second hand sales please get in touch with us ASAP.
