Year 7 Science Excursion

Ricketts Point

A few weeks ago 7A  and 7B went to Ricketts Point to observe and take notes for our CAT.

We were shown around rock pools and discovered different species of marine life in quadrats placed around the sanctuary. Though it was cold, we went and took measurements using tools such as thermometers and lux meters on the shore after learning about abiotic data and the types of it. Everyone got to see marine life close up, such as a blue ringed octopus, a sea horse, a puffer fish and a starfish. In groups, we recorded data such as water temperature, quantity of species in a quadrat, wind speed and leaf length. We learned about the different abiotic and biotic factors and how they could affect this ecosystem, and what we can do as the upcoming generation to prevent events from worsening.

After this excursion, the classes both did a combined CAT and displayed data on a poster comparing Ricketts Point to MGSC.
