Year 7 Mentone Games

Well done to all Year 7 students who took part in the Mentone Games last Friday. The games started with the lighting of the flame, thanks to Ms Bronwyn Moline, Assistant Principal. With the emphasis on teamwork, the Year 7s researched a country and represented that country in a tabloid sports afternoon. The activities were led by our Year 10 Sports Coaching class along with our Health and Physical Education student leaders. Thank you to all of the Personal Learning teachers for their assistance with this event. The girls looked like they really enjoyed themselves.

Year 8 Camp

As week 5 came around so did the Year 8 camp to the Summit. Camp was an absolute blast of fun, fear and excitement! This camp really challenged everyone with the activities making you try new things and making you get outside of your comfort zone. Some of the activities were abseiling, sky bridge, high wire, flying fox, laser skirmish and a monster course! The whole experience of this camp was awesome and definitely something I would do it again!

The Flipside

On Friday 14 June Brainstorm Productions will be presenting their wellbeing program The Flipside for all Year 7 students. Powerful, current, and thoroughly contemporary, The Flipside is an unflinching live theatre experience about online behaviour and its potentially infinite ramifications. The Flipside depicts two teen characters that are embedded in the online community including gaming, social networking and content creation. The sheer magnitude of online interactions, selfies, videos, memes and mash-ups uploaded every minute means that posts quickly disappear into the ether, but not always. As these characters find out, online posts last forever and some can come back to haunt you, even years later. The characters suddenly realise they can't just press the "undo" button to save their relationships, reputation or their dignity. The Flipside will encourage students to think carefully before they ‘post’, ‘snap’ or sign up.

The Flipside is part of our student wellbeing curriculum and the program has been developed in consultation with teachers, psychologists, and draws on real-life student experiences. The methodology of the program is safe, supportive and nonjudgmental and designed to provide students with positive and useful tools that they can use in their everyday lives.

More than 350,000 Australian students have already benefited from Brainstorm Productions multi award-winning educational theatre programs over the past twelve months. Their programs cater to the specific wellbeing needs of students, helping to create a healthy and harmonious school environment.
