Un match de Pélote: Year 10 French students were given the opportunity to try out a new sport in class last week. Pélote, a game with Spanish origins, is popular in the Basque region of Southern France. It is usually played with a ball and an unusually shaped wooden ball or racquet, playing against a wall, with some similarities to squash. Our students learnt about the game in class and how it has become a symbolic tradition of the Basque region. They then had to research various aspects of the game, including the rules, scoring and clothing worn during a match, in preparation for their own pélote matches, played in the gym. It was impressive to see the students transfer their skills from PDHPE classes across to our French classes.

The Concert will conclude with the singing of our traditional Christmas Carols and everyone is invited to join in for a festive end to our busy year in the Performing Arts Department. There will be a raffle on the night where in the spirit of giving back which has been the theme for the Performing Arts this year, proceeds will go to the Edmund Rice Centre and the Drought Relief Appeal.
