Principal's Report

Welcome to Term 3

It is always wonderful to see the fresh, smiling faces at the start of a term. It was wonderful today to visit each classroom and catch up with all of the students, it seems almost everyone was equally excited to be back at school as they were about having a good break.

Over this term, we have a number of exciting events such as the School Concert, Prep 100 Days of School Celebration, Adult Trivia Night,  Whole School House Athletics Carnival and Parent/Teacher interviews.

Gratitude

I wanted to take a moment to share the gratitude I have felt in the number of parents who have sent their congratulations to me on my appointment as Principal at Marlborough. It has been lovely to receive messages of support from the community. I am very honoured to have been appointed to the role and am looking forward to working with the Marlborough community in the coming years.

As always my first priority is around student wellbeing. The volumes of research into this is overwhelming in stating that if a student is not feeling safe and happy at school then their academic learning is impacted. Over the remainder of 2019, we will be looking at our student wellbeing programs and practices with a view to understanding where we are as a learning community and what our next steps are to make this area of Marlborough Primary even better than it already is.

I would always encourage families to have their classroom teacher as the first point of contact for any issues that may arise for your child, however, I am always contactable via phone: 9870 3468 or email: butler.neil.j@edumail.vic.gov.au

Student Reports

I hope all families have been able to read through their child's Semester 1 report. The feedback we have been getting from families has been very positive and we will be sending out a short survey to all families over the coming weeks to seek as much feedback as we can to ensure we are meeting your needs in understanding where your child is at.

Parent/Teacher interviews will be held in the second last week of this term as our next formal reporting opportunity, however, I would always encourage you to make a time to meet with your child's classroom teacher before that to discuss anything to do with your child's learning or wellbeing.

Student Family Occupation & Education Information

We will be sending out a short form to all families this week seeking updates information for students. This is to ensure that we have current information for all families in case of emergency but also to ensure that we have the correct information for our Student Family Occupation and Education (SFOE). A school's SFOE is calculated by the Department of Education based on information provided by families on the parents level of education and employment status. This calculation determines the level of funding that we receive from the Department based on the education and occupation status of parents.

The research into a child's parent's education tells us that students have different needs based on the level of schooling, or further education their parent's experiences, as does their employment classification.

We are updating our information and ask that all families complete the forms sent home and return them to school as soon as possible. It is important that families complete the forms honestly as the information is checked as it is entered into the system and has an impact on parts of our funding.

If families have any questions regarding this please do not hesitate to contact the office.

School Concert

Our school concert is fast approaching. Information and details about this will be sent home this week, but please note that this year we are at Heathmont College and we will be processing all ticket sales on the night at the door as we are able to host our whole community in one concert.

Win a Defibrillator for MPS

St. John's Ambulance are running a competition to win a Defibrillator for school. It would be great for as many families as possible to enter MPS into the competition. Details can be found at https://news.stjohnvic.com.au/deserving-school/
