Reconciliation Action Plan

VCAL Reconciliation Action Plan

Since returning to school, the VCAL class have been working in small groups on projects to raise awareness about Aboriginal reconciliation. Each group has a distinct project to implement within the school. We would like to launch these projects to the school community and families via a clickview presentation.

We will ask staff to share this presentation with classes on Thursday 25th at 1pm which precedes NAIDOC week which usually runs from 5th July – 12th July. The clickview link will be shared on compass Thursday morning for staff and families.

The following is an outline of projects underway that we hope to share images of in our next newsletter.

Indigenous Garden – designed to commemorate and pay respects to Reconciliation week

Black Lives Matter Banner – will be positioned in the quad paying respect to Aboriginal people that have died in police custody

Dreamtime Stories for year 12s – Year 12 students will find a gift of a handmade dreamtime story in their lockers

Aboriginal dates calendar 2021 for staff – staff will each receive a calendar that includes significant events relating to Aboriginal people so that they are aware of the dates of these events

Bush medicine booklet – A booklet of the medicinal uses of the Australian bush according to Aboriginal knowledge will be made and distributed to those interested

Traditional Games – Traditional Aboriginal games will be played with year junior classes, run by VCAL students

Boonwurrung language – painted on canvas and displayed in the VCAL room with Aboriginal art

PPT presentation of Aboriginal history and significance – to be distributed to staff for sharing with their classes if they wish

Information Station – Station of brochures that provide information relating to the Boonwurrung people including culture, tradition and language.
