What to read these holidays: The Shortlist
School holidays are the perfect time to catch up on reading. The six books shortlisted as the best in Young Adult Literature by the Children’s Book Council of Australia (pictured below) are highly recommended. The Older Reader category is for young adults 13 to 18 years with Sarah Epstein’s thriller, Small Spaces and Scot Gardner’s coming of age novel, Changing Gear more suited to the 16 year plus age group.
My pick is Karen Foxlee’s Lenny’s Book of Everything which is a book for all ages. This heart-warming novel is narrated by Lenny Spink whose little brother Davey has a rare form of giant gigantism. It’s a story about the value of family, of love, of loss and never giving up.
Lenny’s Book of Everything, Changing Gear and the verse novel The Art of Taxidermy are all available as ebooks on our very popular Audio and eBook collection https://stpiusx.wheelers.co/
This can be accessed every holiday 24/7.
House Captains promote ‘ERRC’
Kalani, Hayden, Luke and Timothy joined forces to promote the Edmund Rice Reading Challenge to Year 10. Their rousing speeches included many reasons to read, with Luke’s “Read to get House Points!” resonating with his Purton Panthers. The captains are pictured with Year 10's Lachlan Onslow who is eager to take on the Challenge.
Full details on the reading challenge are available at http://libguides.spx.nsw.edu.au/reading/ERRC
