The school term will conclude with our Easter liturgies on Thursday. Mr Adrian Brannan has worked alongside the Performing Arts Department, headed by Mrs Pip Waters, to produce a re-creation of John’s Gospel account of the Passion of Christ. Students from both St Pius College and Mercy College have practiced after school to ready themselves for both schools' Easter liturgies.

I am aware that many students will be completing CIP hours during the holiday break. A special thank you to a group of students in Years 10 and 11 who are giving up a day of their holidays to work at Centacare – a place of meaningful employment for people living with an intellectual disability. This experience will see our students paired with a “Buddy” for a day of work. Later in the year the students have also agreed to be involved in a fun run designed as a fundraiser so that Catholic Care can continue this rewarding initiative. There will be further places available for students in Years 10 and 11 in the next school holidays to work at Centacare.
I have received a number of questions from students regarding their CIP hours and proposed events. In many cases I have asked students to explain or justify how their work has helped those on the margins, as opposed to volunteer work. Students should aim to be completing work for others where their actions and time have assisted those in our community who are disadvantaged, such as the homeless, those living in poverty, the elderly or those living with a disability - to name a few. It is the CIP program that allows students to put their faith into action and truly live the values found in the Gospels.

Ms Becky Houghton from the Salvation Army attended our College Assembly on Monday to talk to the student body about the necessary work the Salvos do in the community at times of need. She made special mention of their work in responding to crises and natural disasters such as the recent Townsville floods. The Salvos were on the ground immediately, offering assistance as the floods began to rise, and will stay on in the community offering support to those affected for years if necessary as they put their properties and lives back to good order.
Our Pius men again responded in great numbers when the ‘call of duty sounds’ to support the Salvation Army in the Red Shield Appeal on Sunday 26 May. Over 40 students received registration forms which should be returned to the Student Administration Office by 8 May. Additional forms can be collected by students, also from the Student Administration Office.
