University of Sydney – Academic Excellence Award

Congratulations to Duncan Dingley of Year 11 who was presented with an Academic Excellence Award from the University of Sydney to acknowledge his outstanding academic achievements in Year 10.  Duncan joined a select group of students from across Sydney to receive his award, which is an initiative by the University to acknowledge and encourage academic diligence. The award also allows the University to search for future, talented students and inspire them to consider graduate studies at the University post-school.

Congratulations to Duncan for this well-deserved recognition of his academic efforts.

In his address to the students, Associate Professor Peter McCallum outlined the Sydney University’s four pillars of learning that are also valuable principles for our own students here at St Pius X College.

  1. Deep Expertise – immerse yourself into your study. Be willing to do your own deep diving to improve your understanding
  2. Global Perspective – be aware of what is happening round the world, especially issues of injustice
  3. Interdisciplinary Effectiveness – work with others, appreciate what they bring, value their expertise in their field
  4. Real World Learning – be curious. Why answer questions you already know the answer. Ask questions and be curious.
