Prayer:  Palm Sunday 14 April

This Sunday is Palm Sunday which marks the commencement of Holy Week, the most important time in the Church that sees Jesus arrested on Holy Thursday and crucified on Good Friday. Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday is the highest point of our liturgical year.

On this day of great rejoicing, Lord Jesus Christ,

when we welcome You as our King and Saviour,

we also walk in the shadow of Your cross.  Hosanna! We cry.

Blessed are You who come in God’s name to save us. Hosanna!

Strengthen our faith on this Palm Sunday

so that when the time comes to carry the cross

we might still call out to You with heartfelt praise.

Give us the grace and the courage to follow You this Holy Week

from death to resurrection, from darkness to the fullness of light.

We need You, Lord Jesus Christ, our Saviour.

Hosanna!

We encourage all families to their Parishes to celebrate this significant season of the Church year. The College liturgies tomorrow (11 April) mark the end of the school term and will also draw together our College Lenten Program.

I wish all families a very safe and Holy Easter.

The Lent and Easter services to be held at Our Lady of Dolours Church, Chatswood are listed below.

Interim Reports

Please see the information from Mr Damo on the Teaching and Learning page of this newsletter.

Great Expectations

What a huge and triumphant week full of expectation and achievement for the cast and crew of “Great Expectations”. On behalf of the College I wholeheartedly congratulate Mrs Penny Lindley especially on her extraordinary talent and leadership and direction of this production.  I also thank the many staff who assisted behind the scenes. It was a huge team effort.

The accolades for this year’s play must go to the students of St Pius X College and Mercy College. They were simply brilliant. Profound and polished, they produced a drama that was extremely complex and entertaining. Congratulations to all our performers.

I share with you below some photos from the performances.  Full reports, reviews and a link to all the photos can be found on the Performing Arts page of this newsletter.

The College publicly acknowledges the work of Larry Kelly who did a superb job of Lighting. I also acknowledge the contribution of the Performing Arts Parents Association who assisted night after night in supporting the students and staff and serving the audience at intermission especially Carmel Daniels, Odette Shahady and Kathryn Vaccher. Their magical High Tea was enjoyed by all. What a beautiful community we have! We also acknowledge the fantastic support of our colleagues at Mercy Catholic College.

Once again, I just marvel at the talents and creativity of our students under the guidance of our brilliant staff led so well by Mrs Pip Waters. Congratulations to all.

P&F Cocktail Party

Another truly memorable evening full of fun and good cheer.  I thank the organising committee - Braelen Zwart, Cassie Buono, Louise Johnston, Rossana Bennett, James Makarewicz and Angelo Guerrera - along with the many parent helpers.   I share with you below a few of the great photos from the night.

Thank you also to the many parents and staff who came to the evening. We certainly enjoyed the company of over 200 plus on the night and the next day we backed up for the sports against St Aloysius College.

St Pius X College vs St Aloysius College

Last Saturday we played our annual friendly vs St Aloysius College in Football and Rugby.  There was spirited competition across all age groups and St Aloysius College was victorious in the 1st Grade Football and Rugby.

This year St Aloysius won the Ross Fagen and Graeme Shields Memorial Shield.

Sports Tours

Best wishes to our sporting tours for these upcoming holidays. I wish them a safe, successful and injury free tour!

Twilight Concert

Please join us on Thursday 9 May for our first Twilight Concert for 2019 which will be held at the Christian Brothers’ Centre, Oxford Falls.  Full details can be found on the Performing Arts page.

Blazer Survey

The Blazer Survey was completed by a huge number of parents, students and staff. I include the summary of the responses and thank the P&F Committee who conducted this survey.  I think the results speak for themselves but I will leave for you to read and interpret them for yourself.  These results will now be analysed by the College Leadership team and the P&F.  Thanks to all those who completed the survey.

Return to School in Term 2 and Winter Uniform

Students return to school for the start of Term 2 on Monday 29 April in full Winter Uniform.

I ask parents to refer to the Winter Uniform Guidelines from the Deputy Principal, Mr Mark Casey, which can be found below.
