CKC Cup

Cowra High vs Canobolas High

Cowra High School hosted Canobolas Rural Technology High School in the annual CKC Cup competition on Tuesday 10 October.  The sportsmanship shown on the day was outstanding!!  All teams displayed the core values of respect and responsibility.  Cowra High School finished the day with 18 victories where as Canobolas High School only won 4.   A massive thank you to the officials and the coaches.  Without your support these events don’t run.

Volleyball

Congratulations to all 4 Volleyball teams (junior and senior boys and girls) who demonstrated great sportsmanship, respect and responsibility as well as dynamic teamwork in the day's friendly competition against Canobolas. Both the senior girls and boys teams were able to build on previous skills and team play and won convincingly against the opposition.  The junior teams will benefit from participating in this round of the CKC Cup.  All students enjoyed the opportunity to play for their school.  It was great that many of the students played their first game of CKC Volleyball. Thanks also to Lucy Pattingale who, although injured, was able to score all four Volleyball matches.

Boys Hockey

These boys rose to the challenge after scraping for players from the playground and starting with nine after roping some passers-by in.  Canobolas scored first taking our goalie by surprise with a high shot into the corner.  However Sam Long settled in and made a number of awesome saves that kept us in the hunt especially after we equalised.  Unfortunately Canobolas scored a few minutes before the final whistle - Sam had an altercation with the goal net and was unable to get to the ball.  The game was played in great spirit.

Boys T-Ball

A keen bunch of boys arrived and we were able to play more than the normal nine so most got to play.  After a rusty start the boys got into the swing of things and fielded well and batted even better to come out the victors.  Smiles and pats on the back were the order of the day.

Boys Softball

Right from the start the boys dominated both in the field and at bat.  Good catches, accurate throws and a little bit of luck gave Cowra the lead and they never looked back.  Thanks goes to Ethan Gray for umpiring.

Debating

A very robust debate was held between the two teams and, in the spirit of cooperation of the CKC cup, these two teams consisted of students from Canobolas and Cowra High!  They debated whether or not performing enhancing drugs should be allowed in sport.  It was a very enjoyable experience for all involved and new friendships between students across the schools were forged.  Well done!

Students involved from Cowra included:  Victoria King, Luke Wilson, Kate Stammers, Beryl Brown, Amelia Clements, Jade Blinman and Cate Sutherland.

Basketball

The weather conditions of the day were extremely favourable and promoted a fast-paced and energetic style of open basketball.  All four CHS teams treated the big crowd on hand to a display of sheer mastery of the sport, spurred on by the heat radiating off the unforgiving asphalt surface.  All games were played in the true spirit of the exchange.  Whilst the junior boys were unlucky and outclassed on the day, the senior boys enjoyed a close encounter, emerging victorious.  Both girls’ teams also enjoyed wins with the junior ladies posting a big score and running away with the clash with sheer willpower and determination.

A special thanks to the officials of the day from Year 11: Jared Burns, Ethan Corcoran and Kirra Haeata, without whom the games would not have been possible.

Girls Soccer

Both the junior and senior girls’ soccer teams played against Canobolas for the final CKC Cup competition.  The junior girls were first up, where they had a 2-0 win, which were both scored by Nashwa Bakini.  The senior girls were up next where they also had a 5-0 win.  Goal scorers for the day were Victoria King, Chloe Lanham, Caitlyn Boswell and Chelsea Apps.  Congratulations to both teams on a great win and for demonstrating exceptional sportsmanship throughout the whole day.

Girls Hockey

The Year 7-10 Girls hockey team played Canobolas as part of the final CKC Cup competition. Unfortunately, the Cowra girls lost 1-0, however all girls played their best and demonstrated excellent sportsmanship qualities throughout the whole game as well as walking off with smiles on their faces.

Netball

Both Netball teams had convincing wins against Canobolas.  The 7/8 Girls won 25-9.  The line-up consisted of Quinn Knight, Zara McKenzie, Tess Roberts, Mikelli Garratt, Makenzie Felton, Tayah Burns and Claire Lewis.

The 9/10 team consisted of Alannah Knight, Chloe Wolfenden, Caitlyn Boswell, Maddison Brooks, Jade Browne, Bree Moodie, Hannah Keen and Chelsea Apps.  Congratulations to both teams!  A big thank you to India Johnson and Mackenzie Thompson for umpiring both games and Lucy Pattingale for scoring.

Touch

The 9/10 boys played first up with a big 14-4 win! Player of this game was Mat Dunn who scored four tries.  Next were the 7/8 boys who also had a good win with a score of 11-2 and Dan Britten was best on field.  The 7/8 girls then played and won 3 -2 with Tayah Burns & Tara Trindall having excellent games!  The final game of the day was the 9/10 girls who also won 3-1 and Chelsea Apps was the player of the game.

Boys Soccer

Our Year 7 and 8 boys Football team began the day with exemplary sportsmanship.  With Canobolas short a number of players, several boys volunteered to play for the opposition to ensure that everyone was able to play a full game.  The boys took control of the match from the opening kick-off and capitalised with three early goals.  Half time saw Cowra take with a commanding lead and the boys took it upon themselves to make a number of positional changes to ensure everyone had a chance to be involved in the play.  Special mention to Dan Ochieng and Myles Miller for their fantastic efforts playing for Canobolas.  Cowra finished strongly to win 12-0.

Our Year 9 and 10 boys also demonstrated the schools core values of respect and responsibility with Canobolas awaiting the arrival of players from other sports.  Sam Long demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship and volunteered to play for Canobolas and led by example putting in a fantastic effort.  Cowra controlled the game early and were once again able hit the scoreboard early and often.  Players frequently shifted positions and formations to ensure that all players received equal playing time.  A strong second half performance saw Cowra win 9-1.
