A new garden

A new garden will be established at school to add more plant life to our yard, attract native bees and provide students with opportunities to take care of a garden. Native blue banded bees are attracted to native plants, are not aggressive and do not produce honey.

The first step has occurred - students have helped to plant seeds to grow seedlings for the garden. These planter boxes are located outside the Art room and we ask that children don't touch them so the seedlings are successful in growing.

Some of the plants that will be grown:

  • Leptospermum - this may not look much when not in flower, but is a big attraction to native bees.
  • Xerochrysum bracteatum - also known as white and pink Everlasting or Strawflower, is a flowering plant native to Australia, where it grows freely in open grassland areas.
  • Billy buttons and other local Helichrysum varieties.
  • Kangaroo paws.
  • Wallenbergia stricta.

The garden will be designed and maintained by our Environment Captains and Green Team students.
