Outside School Hours Care

Week 8 Term 1 News

It has been wonderful getting to know the Good Shepherd Lutheran School community. I have enjoyed getting to know families and understanding their care needs.

We have had a delightful week at OSHC, exploring our current theme of Friendship. The Term’s theme is based off the My Time Our Place outcome; 1.4 children learn to interact in relation to others with care, empathy and respect

The older students have been taking on leadership roles at OSHC to teach the younger students new skills. It has been delightful to see these friendships develop, and to see the students interact with each other with care, empathy and respect. This week, families have been added to the OSHC Seesaw class. Evidence of learning will be posted on Seesaw, and you can see all the wonderful things we do at OSHC.

Afternoon routine

3:05pm – students are signed in at OSHC

3:10pm – afternoon meeting where the Imagination educators remind students of the expectations at OSHC, which creates a safe, happy and nurturing environment. Students will also be briefed on the program for the day. Students are asked for program, menu, general feedback, and vacation care suggestions.

3:15pm – afternoon tea

3:30pm- students are given the option to do quiet homework time in the One 7 Five space next to OSHC, or have free time inside or outside. An educator will assist the students with homework.

4:00pm- students are given the option to participate in the planned activity or free time.

Programming

Our program is child centred and focuses on the needs and interests of the students attending Imagination.

Every Monday the educators hold a ‘Children’s Ideas Meeting’ which seeks to find out students’ suggestions for our menu, activities and general feedback about OSHC life. Once we gather suggestions, the educators create a program based off these suggestions. Each student is catered for in our planning and programming. Educators will identify areas that need nurturing in your child’s learning. Learning stories on Seesaw will provide you with evidence of learning. We aim for every child in our care to have an ‘Individual Learning Profile’. Spontaneous play and group activities will also be shown, which focuses on the My Time, Our Place outcomes. If you identify any outcomes that your child may benefit from, please let the educators know. You can view the My Time Our Place outcomes here

Menu

Each week, the students give the Imagination educators suggestions for the following week's afternoon teas. A light snack is served with a fruit platter each day.  We would love to have parent input, so please let us know if you have any healthy suggestions for Imagination.

Enrolment update

In order to keep your child safe at Imagination, we kindly request that you fill in the Imagination OSHC 2022 enrolment form.

Whilst this might feel like a 'double up' please understand that the regulations and requirements between school education and child care are different.  Our duty of care for students will be maximised if information is up to date and accurate.

Also noted, is that Fully Booked accounts have, in some cases, not been updated for a couple of years. Your assistance with keeping all important information about your child current, is much appreciated by the Imagination team.

Medical Information

A friendly reminder that if your child/ren is/are diagnosed with a medical condition, please ensure an updated medical action plan, risk minimisation plan and medication are provided to OSHC. All these forms are available at OSHC or through email.

All children with allergies must have a current ASCIA action plan for Anaphylaxis or an ASCIA action plan for allergic reactions. If your child has been diagnosed with Asthma, please ensure that you also provide educators with an Asthma care plan which has been completed by your child’s medical practitioner.

For all other medical conditions, please complete a medical conditions risk minimisation form. Medical action plans need to be reviewed annually, or as the doctor requests. Please attach a current photo of your child to the medical action plan.

In conjunction with the medical action plans, an OSHC medical condition risk minimisation is required. This form does not need to be completed by a medical practitioner. This form will provide all educators with valuable knowledge on how to reduce the risks of a medical emergency for your child.

Please also ensure that ALL medication provided to OSHC is in its original packaging, which is clearly labelled with a pharmacy label that states your child’s name, date of birth, and dosage requirements. The label needs to be attached to either the bottle of medication or the canister of the Asthma inhaler.

Your child cannot attend OSHC until these are up to date.

Thank you for helping us keep your child safe at OSHC.

Vacation Care

The Vacation Care booking form is now available. Please note that the Vacation Care due date is fast approaching. Please submit your booking forms no later than Friday 9 April.
