Connecting with our sister schools

Did you know that we have sister schools in Japan? Luckily we have two sister schools. Minowa Elementary School in Nabari City and Nakao Elementary School in Yokohama City. We have been exchanging our learnings including posters, projects, and showing what we do at Kingswood on video clips.

This term, Year 6 students have made Graduation message cards to both of the sister schools, to celebrate their Year 6 Graduation. (The Japanese school year starts in April and finishes in March) Our students used Japanese sentences to write messages and created wonderful cards for their Year 6 graduates. The students and teachers from our sister schools were pleased to receive the cards.

Here is a photo of the Minowa Elementary School graduates, holding the cards we created. Everyone looks happy!

Year 5 students connected to a live video call session with Nakao Elementary School on Skype last week.

In Term 1, our students prepared their script about introducing themselves, all in Japanese. On the day of the videocall, the students were divided into small groups. They exchanged some information including their names, what they like, etc.

The students from Nakao Elementary School also asked us some questions like, ‘What is the most famous place in Australia?’ ‘What is your favourite meal?’ ‘What school subject do you like?’ etc.

We only had 30 minutes for the Skype session, some of our students were a bit nervous, but all students spoke well and the students from Nakao Elementary School also enjoyed talking to our Year 5s.

We will continue to work with our sister schools in 2022.
