Building Works

I am expecting that we will have further clarity around our tender in about two weeks. Covid, supply chain issues, increased construction costs across the country, climate events and war have all negatively impacted on our budget. When the tender panel have finalised their pencil sharpening, I hope to be able to share information with the community if the Victorian Schools Building Authority (VSBA) gives approval.

Connections! Concert

Our Stomp Dance providers have been amazing during Term 1. Students and teachers have been highly engaged. I would like to thank Narelle Vella for her tireless leadership with this concert. She is our rock and without her efforts it would not be the success we know it will be. Additionally, this concert has been very difficult to bring together in Covid times. I was amazed by how difficult it was to find a sound engineer. After approaching numerous companies and connections within the industry we eventually found just one engineer. It did make me pause and think about how many in the industry have been lost due to live venues closing for 2 years. It appears this industry has been decimated.

Movie Night

I am anticipating our movie night to be a huge success with fine weather forecast. There will be plenty of food and drink and a VIP Lounge for parents. We look forward to seeing you there.

Review Parent Focus Groups

Please keep your eyes out on Compass for invitations for you to partake in parent focus groups leading up to our review in Term 3. Your input will be greatly appreciated.

School Council Office Bearers and 2021 AGM Reporting to Parents

On March 22nd our school presented the 2021 Annual Report to parents. After an invitation was sent out to all parents in our community only members of the outgoing 2021-2022 and incoming 2022-2023 school council members were in attendance. At the end of the presentation and a Q&A session the report was formally endorsed and approved by council.

At the first meeting of the school council for 2022-2023 office bearers were appointed in accordance with legislative requirements. At the end of the nomination process, I am pleased to announce the following:

School Council President - Shathani Chandrasegran

School Council Vice President – Dorit Patterson

Treasurer – Gaurav Agarwal

Congratulations to all parents participating in school council. Your ‘connected to community’ attitude supports everyone around you. Well done.

Finally, I’d like to thank Sophie Allen for 9 years of school council service and Bianca Tondo for being a part of our 2021 school council. Sophie was always a positive influence on school council and was an advocate for what was being achieved at Kingswood. Unfortunately, governance rules dictated that Bianca needed to relinquish her position after taking up employment with the Department. Bianca will continue as a member of our Facilities and Community Engagement (FACE) sub-committee.

Therapy Dog

I have engaged in some very informative Therapy Dog seminars and visits to various schools who have different programs running. Some very disturbing data released this week is that 82% of young people experienced mental health issues over the past 2 years. These figures are astonishing and utterly alarming. I am pleased to say your school council is supportive of such an initiative related to student mental health and wellbeing. We hope to have something to present to the school community over Term 2, including a parent session with highly trained therapy/wellbeing dogs associated with Melbourne University.
