Learning in Australia

Learning in Australia

Joyce Wu, Year 10

In Australia, teachers have many teaching methods which are very different from my home country of China. These include self-study, group discussions, social investigation and operation, case studies, brainstorming, and much more.

Students in Australia have more opportunities to practise the new knowledge and skills which they have been taught. They have more opportunities for practical application of knowledge and classroom practice of key concepts and skills.

In order to help students focus on a problem, teachers here ask a question and let the students discuss it together.  The teachers do not comment on a student's point of view, but create a very comfortable learning environment, letting the students summarise and analyse independently. This improves students’ original and creative thinking, independence, participation and team work.
