Co-curricular Program at Kilvington

Co-curricular Program at Kilvington

Jerry Ge, Choral Leader, Year 11

Kilvington is a small community that provides a great range of co-curricular activities for us to participate in. We have five choirs, bands, ensembles and annual productions for Junior and Senior students. We also have Debating and Robotics clubs.

Thanks to the small community, I have plenty of chances to discover my interests. Although my first language is not English, I am still encouraged to represent the School in DAV (Debating Association of Victoria) competitions.

Over the past two years, staff have supported me to become a better debater. All the effort paid off as my team made the finals this season and I was awarded Best Speaker in one of the debates.

Furthermore, Kilvington has an outstanding Performing Arts department. The annual Senior School Production is always the highlight of Term two, and this year we did The Addams Family. After rehearsing for about three months, our talented cast put on spectacular shows across three nights. With professional lighting, microphones and a live band, the feeling of performing on that stage was exhilarating.

As Choral Leader this year, I am proud that our choirs are growing rapidly. More and more students are joining the co-curricular choirs we provide at Kilvington. We can always find a choir to suit our voices and interests best.

We have the Krooners Boys Choir, Kadences Girls Choir, Contemporary Choir and Cantata Choir for younger senior voices. Each choir performs different repertoires at different occasions.

Without a doubt, the most exciting events of the year for us are the Annual Concert and Celebration Night which allow us to perform on the big stage at Robert Blackwood Hall at Monash University.

I particularly love the songs we performed in the concert this year –Somebody to Love by Queen and Bui Doi arranged by our choir accompanist. We are all grateful for the opportunities and wonderful music staff who run the choirs.

I definitely enjoy participating in these co-curricular programs which give me valuable chances to meet with peers who have similar interests and take part in activities and events we all enjoy.
