Inclusion and Diversity

Inclusive Sporting Clubs Program

TEM is taking part in a partnership project between Access Health and Community, City of Boroondara, Manningham City Council, Leisure Networks and Women’s Health East which aims to help sporting clubs attract and support a more diverse membership that encourages participation and leadership from everybody.  Over the next six months, the program offers:

  • six face-to-face workshops over a six month period, facilitated by a trainer experienced in sports development
  • assistance to complete an inclusion assessment and development of a practical action plan
  • ongoing support from Access Health and Community and Boroondara Council.

The first workshop was in February and looked at leadership, change and culture issues, see links below.  Work has already started on the club's inclusion assessment, together with Access Health and Community.

The March workshop looked at equality v equity, and clubs worked through their inclusion assessments.

We hope to benefit by continuing to build an environment which encourages the whole family to participate.  We also want to increase our appeal to a broader section of the community, target more diverse sponsors, be eligible for a wider range of funding and grant opportunities, and engage a broader group of volunteers and future leaders bringing a variety of fresh skills, strengths and ideas to the table.

Jenny Eager and Pip Dudley are TEM's Inclusion Ambassadors and we'd love to hear from anyone who would like to be involved! The workshops are open to anyone, so if you are interested in coming on board or would just like to share your thoughts and ideas, contact us on inclusion@tem.org.au.
