What's Happening

A Brief history of TEMpo

The committee has decided to bring back a club newsletter which we haven't published for a number of years. TEMpo was first printed back in the late 1970s when our club was situated at Lord Reserve in Carnegie. The committee at the time wanted a name for their new newsletter and after sitting around at a meeting one night someone suggested they call it TEMpo, with 'po' being an informal old English word for chamber pot or toilet. The committee thought it seemed to sit well alongside the club name, TEM!

It was printed for a number of years and then on an off during the late 1990s before falling by the wayside as online formats such as email and facebook became the norm for club correspondence.

At the beginning of this year, the committee thought it would be a great idea to bring it back to life in an online format so members could stay informed of what was going on throughout the club divisions. I hope you enjoy this new incarnation of our old publication. We will be including member profiles and a bit of club history in future editions, but if there is anything else you would like to see, please let us know via email; juniors@temhockey.com (Our Junior VP Leesa Needham is the one who will be collating the newsletter.) We are looking for someone to eventually take on the role of TEMpo editor so if you are interested, please contact Leesa (juniors@temhockey.com)  for more details.

Wellbeing Committee

During these difficult times the club has formed a 'Wellbeing Committee' who is working on engaging our club members to stay positive during these challenging times. The committee is made up of the following people; Michael Norbury (Club President) Christie Freeman (Women's VP), David Bevan (Men's VP), Leesa Needham (Juniors VP) and Penny Senior (Women's Secretary).

We know that it’s hard to stay motivated to keep active and stay in our own homes at the moment but it’s really crucial that we do stay at home unless we need to

- go to work

- get food or medicine

- help care for others

- exercise either alone or in a small group of people that live with you

In order to make sure we can get back to hockey as soon as possible we encourage all of you to follow the government’s guidelines. 'Zoom' is a great way to do workouts together so that we can still get around and support each other.  We can still stay supportive whilst remaining isolated and keep our whole community safe and healthy.

If you have any suggestions or need help in any way please don't hesitate to contact us at wellbeing@tem.org.au.

TEM Online

During these challenging times TEM is looking at ways to keep you excited about hockey. We have been uploading some TEM skills videos and links to online videos from International superstars to keep you motivated to keep practising at home.

You can follow (and 'like') our club facebook page @ToorakEastMalvernHockeyClub

OR  have a look at our new youtube channel which will also feature these skills videos and link:

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIEjwMJVXQOVF1yFPehvt2w (you can also just go to youtube and search temhockey.)

We'd love to see some more videos from our members so if you have time (which I'm sure many people do now!!) send us a video of you practising your skills at home or a 'how to' video for a certain skill.

You can send them to juniors@temhockey.com
