Message from the President

Dear TEM member,

Who would have thought that at the beginning of March that hockey fields across Melbourne would be locked for an indefinite period?

The position in relation to COVID-19 changes daily, so far increasing restrictions are imposed.  Now only two people can meet in a group.

However, that will change, the corner will be turned and we will allowed back onto hockey fields, but we do know when that the corner will be turned.  Hockey Victoria has no more idea than any of us when the corner will be turned, but HV is planning for that day.  There will be hockey competitions.  They may be short, they might start in August and go into spring.  We don’t know.  But there will be hockey competitions.

TEM will be there.  TEM has been prudently run for many years.  Every year we have had a little more money in the bank at the end of the year than the beginning, our ‘just in case’ money.  TEM will survive and be there when the corner is turned.

But TEM is much more than a prudently run club.  It is people.  It is very important that you keep in contact with each other.  There’s lots of software and apps available to keep communication open,  Whatsapp, Skype, Zoom, GoToMeeting, Houseparty to name a few.  TEM has GoToMeeting available so if you would like to use this piece of software, please contact Bruce Cook at treasurer@tem.org.au.

Try something radical.  Make a list of TEM people and telephone two of them each day-not a text, not Facebook, not email, talk with them by phone like grandma does.  Do it every day, different people every day.

Try not to become a couch potato.  It’s easy stay on the couch watching Netflix.  But hockey competitions will start, be ready.  From Sunday night, the rules only permit training with one other person.  Find a pair train together.  For most of us, it’s easier to train with another person than alone.

TEM now has a Wellbeing committee  [wellbeing@tem.org.au]. Please let us have your thoughts on keeping people in contact.
