Flexible. Resilient. Positive. 2023
What a fabulous fortnight we have had at Rangeview to start our Term 3. Level 1 & 2 have had Science Incursions, Level 5 & 6 have had Parliament Incursions, Foundation celebrated Milo Monkey's Surprise Birthday and a Puppet Incursion, our German Poetry Competition has begun with several students making it through the first round, Level 4 have had a week of intensive swimming, Grade 1 have celebrated 100 days of school, the AFL Gala Day ran on Thursday, our staff participated in some Peaceful Kids training, and our Level 3 & Level 5 NAPLAN data arrived.
NAPLAN 2023
Congratulations and well done to all of our Level 3 & Level 5 students who completed the NAPLAN earlier this year. NAPLAN is a national assessment which is completed by all students in schooling in Australia - Levels 3, 5, 7 and 9.
We encourage students to try their best and we ensure they understand that NAPLAN is just one assessment completed at one point in time. It is a measure of quite specific skill sets and is by no means an accurate picture of the whole student as a learner.
This being said - our school NAPLAN results were incredibly strong this year with Rangeview outperforming our similar schools and our network schools on almost all measures.
The below tables show the percentage of students scoring in the Exceeding and Strong results range.
Network Schools: 60 Primary, Secondary and Specialist Schools in our local area.
Similar Schools: Schools matched by gender, Indigeneity, language background other than English status, parental occupation, parental education, and remoteness.
Please see the Teaching and Learning page for more details on the new NAPLAN.
Parent Opinion Survey
We will soon be conducting the annual survey to find out what parents / caregivers / guardians think of our school. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. All families are invited to participate in the survey.
The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open from Monday 7 August to Friday 8 September 2023. We will send you a link to participate.
The survey will be conducted online, is completely anonymous, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the survey period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones. The online survey will be available in English and 10 other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese.
Results of the survey will be shared with our community once we receive them later in the year.
Run Club Trophy
A huge thank you to Corinne Dellar and all of the students at Run Club, for organising a Run Club Trophy for Mr Clark! After 18 months of organising medals and trophies for our Run Club students it was so lovely to see Mr Clark receive a trophy of his own - on behalf of the parents and students.
Well deserved and an excellent effort - not sure if you have done enough laps for a trophy though Mr Clark?!
Nudel Kart Donation
One of our Rangeview families Penelope and Richard Feder (Ensemble Strategy), together with Scott Thompson (Nudel Kart), have arranged a donation of a full sized Nudel Kart for our Rangeview students to use. This amazing STEM resource is a deconstructable, mobile cart that can transform any room into a creative STEM learning environment. https://www.nudelkart.com/explore-nudel-kart.html
Once built, this device will be roaming the school with teachers able to run STEM sessions which promote creativity, self regulation, growth mindset along with science, technology, engineering and mathematics!
We extend our sincere thanks to the donating family and will be sharing what the students can build/create with the community.
Peaceful Kids Professional Learning
Last week our wonderful Social Worker - Natalie Powell - ran a professional learning for our staff on the Peaceful Kids model. Staff learned about the science behind mindfulness and its effects on the brain and then also on self regulation. We covered a little bit of neuroscience and the staff then built models of a brain.
In addition to the small groups of students which Natalie takes in the Peaceful Kids program each week, we also have a large number of teachers using the Peaceful Kids strategies in their classrooms every day. Breathing Buddies, Glitter Jars and Mindful Moments are all strategies from this model.
Calm, regulated students are able to learn well and engage with their peers and their schooling.
