Joeys Yarning Space

We acknowledge and pay respect to the traditional custodians,

past and present of this land of the Anaiwan, Banbai, Dunghutti,

Jukambal, Kambuwal, Weraerai, Kamilaroi, Ngoorabul and Gumbaynggirr as acknowledged by Armidale Lands Council, people who long before us lived,

loved and raised their children on this land.

We also acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families

in our community and acknowledge their deep physical

and spiritual connections to the land.

Yaama ganu,

What a Dhirabuu start to term 3 we have had!

I hope you had a great break and are ready to take on this term with a big spirit!

A quick wrap up of our first few weeks back. We had Uncle Kelvin open our NAIDOC week and our beautiful new yarning space, which we are looking forward to using in our cultural lessons as well as a place where our students can just “be”.

We visited Holy Trinity and took part in some wonderful experiences with them and we finished our week off at Ceremic Break Sculpture Park, where Anaiwan artist Simon Munro immersed us all in traditional and contemporary Gamilaraay art.

I have loved seeing the kids faces everyday! Remember attendance is so important!

Kids who miss one day of school per fortnight, miss four weeks per year, leading to huge learning gaps. Let’s keep our kids coming and growing their minds.

We also received some beautiful NAIDOC shirts on our first week back, how great are they?! These shirts can only be worn during special occasions and are not everyday school wear, we know they are bright and beautiful, just like our students, but these shirts are reserved for special occasions only.

I look forward to all the amazing things we are going to achieve this semester and always if you need a chat or anything at all, I can be contacted at school anytime.

Yaluu
