Mazenod Old Boys Golf Open

The Mazenod Old Boys Golf Open is back again for 2023! Round up your Mazza mates, get a team together and have some fun trying to get a small ball in a hole 350m away!

This is an ambrose event, with prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, last, closest to the pin, longest drive, and 1st without the randomised handicap. We hope to have a few other ‘crazy’ prizes as well, so join in on the fun!

If you wish to register or have questions, please email John (Keogh.john@mazenod.wa.edu.au) by Wednesday 16 August.

Please note this year, we will be at Hillview Golf course. The event will be a shotgun start. Each team will be allocated a hole to start from with tee-off at 1pm. This will enable us all to finish at the same time.

Where: Hillview

When: Monday, 21st August, from approx. 12.30pm

Cost: Pay on the day - Green Fees are ~$30 per person for adults and $25 per students.

If you wish to donate/sponsor a prize, please email John!

A bowl of chips provided by the Old Boys once your game is finished in the clubhouse. Please stay around for the prize ceremony.

Please note: Students in Year 7, 8 and 9 must be accompanied by an adult. Please read below for important importation regarding the event.

1.) This is an Ambrose-style event. i.e. – play next shot from the best shot of group.

2.) Tee off from blue tees.

3.) Each player must have 3 of their drives used as the group’s best shot.

4.) If the chosen ball is off the fairway/ in a bunker/ off the green, then the next shot must be played off the fairway/ in the bunker/ off the green.

5.) Handicaps: At the end of the game, we choose 6 holes at random and use these to create a ‘handicap’ for each group based on the group’s score over these 6 holes. Each group’s net score is then calculated: Net score = raw score – handicap. There is a nominal prize “The Socks Prize” in recognition of the best raw score of the day. There are also prizes for nearest to the pin, for holes 4 and 12, and the longest drive on hole 18.

6.) Please ensure you dress in accordance with Hillview Golf Club's dress code. Collared shirt (polo fine), trousers or dress shorts (no denim) and closed in shoes.

Footy Tipping

One major upset in Round 21 meant that no-one got all nine games correct.  In fact, we only had one person, Peter Gurry (Class of 1987), who managed to pick eight winners and as such is this week’s winner.  Congratulations Peter, that’s $50 coming your way. We had a further 32 people pick seven winners.

With regards to the overall leader board, Brady Rafferty (Class of 2021) leads on 130, Jeremy Logan (Class of 1987) sits second on 129 with two people on 128.

Round 22

Round 22 starts Friday night with several games that will shape the composition of the top eight.

Collingwood v Geelong

Have the Colliwobbles set in? Having lost their last two games and Nick Daicos set to miss the next few weeks, Collingwood supporters may be getting a little nervous about their September chances. Geelong just need to keep winning games;

North Melbourne v Essendon

Essendon just managed to beat the Eagles, so you would imagine that North Melbourne might also give them a run for their money;

Sydney v Gold Coast

Sydney has now won four in a row to give themselves a chance of playing finals.  If Gold Coast lose, their chances of making the top eight will be officially over;

Brisbane v Adelaide

It’s hard to go past Brisbane at home but Adelaide has won five of the last seven games between these sides at the Gabba;

Carlton v Melbourne

These two sides have the best unbeaten streaks going in the AFL at the moment, that will end for one side come Saturday night;

West Coast v Fremantle

Both sides have been much more competitive in their last two games and given that both sides also struggle to score heavily this might be close;

Hawthorn v Western Bulldogs

This game is being played down in Tasmania which only increases Hawthorn’s chances of causing another upset.  A real danger game for the Bulldogs;

St Kilda v Richmond

Neither side are going particularly well right now, yet both sets of supporters will still hold out hope that their teams get to see September action; and

Port Adelaide v GWS

Port has now lost four in a row, seriously jeopardising their hopes of a top two finish.  GWS will look to bounce back after their first loss in eight games.

Good luck and thanks for the support!
