From the Principal
Dear Parents, Students, Staff and Friends of Mazenod College,
“Education does not consist of filling heads with ideas, but in accompanying and encouraging students on a journey of human and spiritual growth”
(Pope Francis, 28 June 2023)
This week saw Mazenod College participate in the largest agricultural trade exhibition in the mid-west region, the Mingenew Country Expo. The expo and similar country field days provide our College the opportunity to promote and connect with prospective and current families, mostly of our boys in the Cebula Boarding community.
It always amazes me, the regularity by which past parents of Mazenod College, who have connections in the regions, are only too happy to espouse the positive experience that they had when their children attended our school!! Common sentiments include, “we love Mazenod, the community means so much to us,” “our boys had a great time at Mazenod” and perhaps the best of all, “we are so grateful for what Mazenod provided for our son”. All wonderful affirmations indeed.
We were also reminded at our College assembly this week, of the great breadth of opportunities available here. We heard some terrific reports of the contributions that the boys have made on the sporting field, as student leaders, through our Rosie’s Immersion, languages week, our sustainability committee and the exploits of our talented Arts students.
We are all very much looking forward to our upcoming Mazenod Mission Day and I spoke, in my Principal’s address at the assembly, of the opportunity for our community to make meaningful contributions to our Oblate missions and those less fortunate than ourselves.
I would particularly like to acknowledge and thank all families who have made contributions to this special cause, whether financial or with goods. We understand that with cost of living and economic pressures, contributing to such events can be difficult for our families, but the clear demonstration of generosity, good will and spirit of giving is greatly appreciated.
I look forward to our Mazenod Mission Day, especially the opportunity to share in the Eucharist, a whole College Mass on the Feast of the Assumption, to celebrate the assumption of our Mother Mary from her earthly presence into heaven. We extend an invitation to families who wish to join us for this special Mass.
God bless
