BHCS Features in World First               (District Swimming)

By Leo Wanders

The swimming fraternity in the leafy hills of Belgrave were suitably stunned recently as the students of BHCS swept to a world first victory in the 2015 District Swimming competition, a fiercely contested local annual event.

Led by the BHCS household names of swimming, Dendle, Seskis, Fraanje and the like, and ably supported by up-and-coming stars Eden, Van Eyk, Mina-Stepanek, Kennedy and Steer, this nautical juggernaut ignored past history to create history of their own which will long be talked about within the circles of the BHCS community.

If this were a literary event, it could be likened to the great works of Shakespeare or Tolstoy. If it was of a Mathematical bent, it may well be considered greater than the works of Da Vinci and Pythagoras. Such was the magnitude of this victory.

From the powerhouse starts to the accelerated finishes to those stamina-fuelled middle meters, along with the mighty work that shoulder after shoulder, torso after torso and foot kick after foot kick displayed, all the swimmers must be congratulated on an outstanding team performance. The cheering was voluminous, the encouragement authentic and the desire to compete fiercely, real. Yet, in amongst all of that, was the element of having a crack, having a laugh and having a ball with your friends, all of which are far more important than winning (even though it is sooo nice to win). And afterwards, the game which most of the students like to play: see how many children it takes to sink an adult.

Well done to Hunter Chapman, Joshua Wight, Eden M, Owen Broadbent, Jarrod Van Eyk, Isaac Seskis, Zac Dendle, Luca Harris, Deakin Miller, Ethan Cox, Sam Davis, Jacob Cramer, Mikaela Seskis, Savanna Cox, Eliza Jamieson, Samantha Harris, Sabine Russell, Ana Mina-Stepanek, Ava G, Matilda Kennedy, Emily Fraanje, Annie Steer and Lily C. All champions, all history makers, all great sports and all very worthy representatives of BHCS.

Dandenong Ranges & Knox District Swimming 2015

After winning the Division Swimming last week, a pod of 12 swimmers left Athletics early on Tuesday to represent our Division at District Swimming.  The students ranging from Grades 3 to 6 did a wonderful job.

All swimmers have earned their place at the next level which is the Regional Competition on 13 March at Nunawading. Congratulations to all competitors you did yourselves proud and represented the school exceedingly well.  Special thanks to Grandparents and parents who helped out on the day! (Hopefully you also read Leo's article)
