Illnesses within the Preschool

Please take the time to read through the following information regarding excluding children from attending services while they are unwell. Infection prevention and control is an important part of ensuring the safety health and wellbeing of children attending early childhood services, and service staff.

With winter starting and cold and flu infections increasing in the community, many children are likely to be unwell. As you would be aware, influenza (flu) and respiratory cases have been rising across Victoria and COVID-19 cases persist, so we want to protect our children and staff during this time.

If children are unwell, they are required to stay at home, unless those symptoms are known to be caused by an underlying health condition or medication. This will help our service keep other children, staff members and their families as safe as possible. Viruses spread quickly when there is close contact and cause many of the diseases that are common among young children — especially when a child is coughing and sneezing.

If your child has tested negative for COVID-19, but has symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat, cough or fever, please keep them at home until they are well and symptom-free.

If your child requires paracetamol or ibuprofen, they should not be attending the kindergarten.

Parents will be called to collect their children if they present with any of these symptoms and do not have a doctor's clearance to confirm that they are not contagious.

If your child is going to be absent due to illness or has an infectious disease, please notify your group via your group email.

Thank you for your understanding, and consideration of others in our kinder community. Stay safe and well.

Livingston's Mindfulness, Relaxation, and Meditation.

During our day at Livingston Kinder, we practice some form of mindfulness/relaxation. By showing/talking with the children about the concepts of mindfulness and relaxation skills we are supporting their well-being.

Mindfulness/Relaxation is the art of paying attention to what is happening in the present moment. It may be what the children are feeling, hearing, or anything else they notice around them. Relaxation/ Mindfulness is a kind and calm look at what the body and mind are doing in the here and now.

Why experience relaxation and mindfulness?

In the Early Years, this act aims to give the children some tools to build their confidence, cope with stress and be able to relate to uncomfortable and/or challenging moments. It can also provide life skills and opportunities to build resilience as they head into their Primary school years and beyond.
