Grade 1 and 2
Term 3
The Grade 1 and 2 students enjoyed Professor Bunsen’s demonstrations of physical & chemical changes in our world, in line with our Inquiry topic: “We are Change Makers”. Our students observed instant colour changes, were mesmerized by the “chemical abilities” of laundry materials when an explosive balloon was produced and learned how heat packs work. Professor Bunsen also threw in some “controlled explosions”, fast burning reactions and fun was had by all!
'WE ARE CHANGE MAKERS'
This term our inquiry unit focus is 'We Are Change Makers'. Students will be predicting, observing and experimenting with the physical and chemical changes that occur when different materials are mixed together. Throughout the unit students will be investigating the properties of everyday materials, learning about how materials used in buildings and shelters are suited to the environment and exploring changes that occur over time.
The Grade 1 and 2 students have been very busy writers this term. We have been learning about the Recount and Persuasive Genre. Students have been having a go at writing their own “Would you rather?” questions and their opinion on that question as well as…. writing about their personal experiences. Our children have also been working at building their word repertoire to build detail in their narratives. When we use interesting words in our writing, our stories have more detail and we are able to HOOK our readers!!!
