Principals' Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to the halfway mark of the term. Where has the year gone? It is certainly moving very quickly. The students have certainly been busy in the classroom, learning new concepts, consolidating past concepts and showing a true enthusiasm and love for learning. It gives us great pleasure to visit classrooms and see students happy, smiling and engaged in their learning. We thoroughly enjoy asking students about their learning and hearing their responses.

NAPLAN

St Joseph's School has a very strong learning agenda focusing on improving student outcomes and wellbeing which is clearly stated in our Annual Improvement Plan.  Over the past few years there has been a consistent approach to research informed, contemporary pedagogy across K-6 which is having a direct impact on student achievement. This improvement can be identified through our internal reading data via PM Benchmarking which is monitored very closely by the staff and leadership team. Improvement is also measured through external assessments and we are very pleased with our recent NAPLAN results for Years 3 and 5.

Please see the report outlining our achievements in the 'Learning Zone' section of this newsletter. Congratulations to the staff for their dedication to our students and thank you to you, their parents and carers for supporting the students in their learning.

Annual School Survey

An annual satisfaction survey of parents, students and staff will be conducted on behalf of all Catholic schools in the Diocese this term. The surveys are designed to gather feedback from parents, staff and students about our school and will be used to affirm practices and inform school improvement. The surveys will be launched via email today; Monday, 21 August 2023 using the email addresses supplied to the school. If you do not receive an email with a link to the survey, you can access and complete the survey via the following link:  https://www.research.net/r/StJosephsTamworthPARENT2023

The survey will close on Wednesday, 30 August, 2023.

Maitland-Newcastle Study Tour

Last Thursday and Friday, we welcomed over thirty Diocesan staff and Assistant Principals from the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese to our school. We were honoured to be asked to host these learning walks to showcase the exceptional learning and teaching happening across K-6 in our wonderful learning spaces. We are very proud of our school and appreciated this opportunity to once again highlight the excellent learning and teaching taking place here at St Joseph's. The fantastic feedback from our visitors is a credit to our students and fabulous staff and reminds us that we are a part of our wonderful faith-filled school community where learning matters. On behalf of the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese, Mr Jason Hanrahan (Acting Assistant Head of School Improvement) thanked us for the opportunity to tour our school and support their professional learning agenda.

Have a great week.
