Literacy

We have had a focus on revising our writing pieces and in particular, the word choices we are making. We are trying to add detail by being adventurous with the verbs and adjectives we use when forming sentences.

Here are some diary entries we wrote of a fiction or non-fiction celebration where we really focused on what we had learnt about our word choices.

We will continue to focus on our word choices when writing and how we can make improvements when we are revising. We will also continue to use our writing time to incorporate our learnings of Australian history, as we prepare for our camp.

Maths

Our focus for the past two weeks has been on Location and Transformations. We started looking at maps and reminded ourselves what BOLTS stood for (Border, orientation, legend, title, scale). We found that scale was an area we needed to look into more and learnt about ratios on map scales. We then delve into this a bit deeper by drawing a scaled diagram of our desk and classroom. These turned out to be very challenging tasks!

We are now focusing on Fractions & Decimals for the next two weeks where we really try to understand the connection between fractions, decimals and percentages.

Faith Inquiry

We have started to work on a new learning task through our Ed in Faith lesson. In groups, we will be preparing  a prayer service that will soon become one of our Wednesday whole class prayer services. We are learning about what is required in a prayer service and what sorts of features we could include to make it engaging for the students in our school.

We met with the year 6s last week who are preparing their own liturgies, as we listened to the wise words of Miss Marion. Miss Marion was able to give us an insight into what sorts of preparation is done as she prepares the Wednesday whole school prayer services.

We will now continue our learning as we work together with our group members to choose a theme, find or create some prayers, choose some songs, images and possibly a symbol.

We will let you know when the year 5s are starting to share these prayer services with the whole school, so that hopefully some of the family members could come and watch or listen to their service.

Fire Carriers Commissioning Ceremony

FIRE Carriers - (Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education)

We are so proud of our year 5 students Reece, Sebastian , Grace and Willow who were commissioned as FIRE carriers for our school and received their badges at our last assembly. It was such  a sacred moment for everyone to witness the celebration at SFX. Well done to these students and we look forward to observing their leadership skills through this role.

Showcasing Talents

Anastasia performed a song on her guitar during assembly. It was a great inspiration for other kids at school.

Well done Anastasia.!!

Have a lovely weekend everyone,

Mr Cameron & Miss Ash
