From the Assistant Principal.
Dear Families,
NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST BULLYING
Friday, 18th August is a National Day of Action Against Bullying. This year the theme is around 'growing connections'. So many young people today find it difficult to make meaningful connections with other people, don't understand why friends sometimes don't want to play, have little resilience when things go wrong on the playground and find it difficult to stand up and speak up when there are issues.
On this day, each class/grade will focus on how growing connections with other students can help to prevent bullying. Having 90 grade friends can be a daunting experience for our children and we understand they won't always get along with each other all of the time. Some children may have not have been in the same class with a few children in their grade, so this is a good opportunity to connect with others and develop a clearer understanding of the importance of connecting with fellow students and classmates in meaningful ways.
ST PATRICK'S TALENT SHOW IS COMING
Last week you received a Compass message about the 'St Patrick's Talent Quest." The ‘Talent Quest’ is just that - a quest to find, enjoy, and appreciate the many talents of the children, such as dance, singing, playing an instrument, jokes, juggling, a “skit”.
So our “TQ” (Talent Quest) runs smoothly here are some points to remember:
·
- Any student may enter (from K – 6), individually or as a group in their class
- The music and words must be appropriate for school.
- You must tell us which piece of music you would like so it can be found on youtube – or use an instrument (keyboard will be here).
- The performance must be entertaining (do not merely stand and sing along to a pop song – you must add movement – be creative!!).
- The maximum time is 2 minutes.
Registrations will be open soon, and class heats are coming.
BOOK WEEK
Week 6 is Book Week. Please see below for information about school events during this week.
FRUIT AND VEG MONTH
Fruit & Veg Month 2023 will run from Monday 28 August to Friday 22 September. It is a health promotion event that aims to encourage increased fruit and vegetable consumption amongst NSW primary school children through engaging activities for the classroom, whole of school and at home. Classes will spend some time discussing healthy fruit and vegetable choices for lunch boxes.

LUNCHES AND CRUNCH AND SIP
We have also noticed recently that many students are coming to the office at lunchtime without any food, as they have already eaten it all. This is especially our younger students. Please have a chat to your children about the contents of their lunch box and help them to understand what food can be eaten and when - eg what is for crunch and sip, recess and lunch to help them portion their food throughout the day. Please also remind children that crunch and sip should only be fresh fruit and vegetables and be able to be eaten quickly while working, eg for younger students a whole apple can be hard to eat, where as an apple already cut into pieces can be easily eaten during this time.
