Wellbeing highlights from this term
The Wellbeing team has been busy in Term 3 with a range of different activities and groups running. As always there are daily lunchtime activities running as well as breakfast club from 8-8.45am Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Pat Cronin Foundation
The Pat Cronin Foundation came out in Term 3 to deliver a follow up presentation to Year 11 and 12 students after initially presenting in 2022. Pat unfortunately lost his life in 2016 from a Coward Punch during a night out in Diamond Creek. The Foundation presents to schools and sporting clubs and discusses the impacts the Coward punch, aggression and violence has on parents, siblings, friends and the wider community.
MPower
Stride Education have started the MPower group which aims to support a group of female students in years 8-10. The 6-week program goes through topics such as being a good friend, the impact of body language on others, positive self-talk and confidence and the effects of negative comments. Within this framework, students are given specific skills to effectively problem-solve peer issues, to be assertive in conflict situations, reduce stereotyping and be more mindful of how their actions affect their peers.
Blackout Poetry Michelle from Sunbury Library has been facilitating blackout poetry workshops at Sunbury College as part of the Youth Lounge sessions they run on Wednesday’s after school. They are also participating in the Australian Poetry Slam at the end of August! If you are interested in attending or participating, please see their website.
Art Club
Students have been enjoying activities from Art Club this term, from making stickers to using clay and so much more! Please note that from Week 6 Art Club will run at Brunch instead of lunch 😊
Damper for NAIDOC Week
Sunbury College celebrated NAIDOC week in the first week back of term 3. Students were involved in a number of different activities including damper making, documentary, music and art.
