Future STEM Leaders with RMIT University
On Tuesday 20th of June our students had their second experience in this multi-touch point leadership development program to touch base remotely with the ambassadors from RMIT University. The RMIT ambassadors are continuing to mentor our year 9 and 10 students to build their capacity.
Additionally, our students are currently working towards developing a program to teach junior students to build a two-person reaction game using block-based coding and programming Micro:bits! It is wonderful to see our students embracing the opportunity to challenge themselves out of their comfort zone to learn new skills and share those with younger year students in our local community! Well done to all students involved!
Ms Myroforidis
What does STEM mean to you?
STEM means Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths and involves people working together to innovate in order to solve problems and design products for the future.
What are your goals as STEM captain?
To raise awareness in fellow students of what STEM means. For example, Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. This includes anything to do with computers and programming and technologies such as how woodwork and product design technologies are incorporated in STEM.
My other goals as STEM captain are to have fun in the STEM opportunities both inside and outside of the school and to influence all members of our school and wider community to have awareness, passion and fun with STEM.
What do you see as possibilities as STEM careers in the future?
There are many emerging technologies in the biological, chemical and physical science disciplines which are meaning there are jobs in those fields for students in the future.
People can also have careers in Space Science, data science (which is heavily influenced by maths) and use AI (artificial intelligence) to develop processes and technologies which do not yet exist!
