Principal Team's Message

Our Assistant Principals reflect on term three

At the halfway point through Term 3, our students have already participated in a wide range of activities and programs. Including subject selection (from years 8- 11), VCE VM (Vocational Major 2024) interviews, year 9 NAARM, senior warm and fuzzy day, Nagano senior high school visit, meet the duxes, high ability programs, year 11 Presentation balls, outdoor education camps and other extra- curricular activities. Our students have demonstrated outstanding participation in these activities and adhered to our school values of respect, resilience, responsibility and endeavour.

Nagano High School visit 🇯🇵

The Nagano High School visit to Sunbury College has been an enormous success. Many friendships across year levels, parents / carers and staff evolved during the program. The 25th anniversary was an opportunity to deepen cultural awareness and celebrate diversity across our two countries. The 10 day visit was packed full of activities and experiences that will remain with the 15 Nagano students and two teachers, their homestay families and the school community for many years to come. A big thank you to our homestay families who made this exchange possible. The Nagano students were truly overwhelmed by the generosity and hospitality provided to each student. They would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to our whole school community for embracing them in such a positive and enthusiastic manner.

Winter Uniform 👔

Term three is the beginning of frosty and foggy mornings. It's important that students are feeling warm and ready to learn when arriving at school. This term we have a new beanie that is now available for purchase from the General Office and the Uniform Shop. If your child needs an item of uniform or you require financial assistance, please contact the office and speak with the Business Manager.

Uniform Shop Opening Hours: Tuesday in P1 - 3.30pm - 5.30pm or visit the Academy Uniform shop in Thomastown

Accessible building works at Sunbury College 🏫

Term three will see a number of important projects occur across the school. These building works will improve student access to specific spaces and allow for current and future students to safely navigate the school and classroom spaces. The works include:

  • Redesign and build new accessible car parking closer to the front of the admin building
  • Removal of up to 9 gutters/lips to allow for wheelchair access.
  • Permanent ramps into the learning common spaces.
  • Accessible benches in the food rooms.
  • Auto doors in the A block, Admin building, learning common
  • Ramps accessing the Canteen

Outdoor Courts Refurbishments 🏀

With support from the Sunbury & Bulla Neighbourhood Fund, the Sunbury College outdoor courts are scheduled for some refurbishments that will allow both students and local community members to access the courts for years to come.

Works will include:

  • Resurfacing of uneven court areas
  • Repainting of all Basketball and Netball lines
  • Installation of two netball poles
  • Replacement of missing pole protectors
  • Installation of four bench seats

Project cost: $45,370

Expected Completion: November 2023

During this time, we ask for your patience as there will be periods where contractors are undertaking work and the courts may be unavailable.

We also ask that students and community members who access this space, to continue to treat the space with respect and to place litter in the available bins.

Break time activities and out of bounds areas

A reminder that any contact sport including footy and rugby are not permitted during break times at Sunbury College. Whilst we encourage students to be physically active playing markers up, touch footy etc. students are not permitted to tackle and bump one another. Yard duty teachers will remind students of this and we ask families to speak to their active teenagers about looking after one another during the breaks.

Students are not permitted to hang out adjacent to perimeter fences. This approach enhances child safety and will enable students to be supervised during break times.

Accessing the car park at drop off and pick up time 🚘

Staff cars and buses are the only vehicles permitted to access the Sunbury College car park and bus lane prior to 9:00 am and after 3:10 pm. This allows for staff and students to navigate the car park safely and for buses to have a clear run. We appreciate that in the mornings, the space in and around the school is quite busy and ask that parents/guardians make good use of the three supervised pedestrian crossings and underpass by dropping off and picking up in strategic places around the school.

Parent Student Teacher conferences – save the date 🗓

Interviews will take place on the afternoon/evening of Tuesday 12 September with interviews to open on the Compass portal by late August. This is a great opportunity for families and students to discuss their child’s approach to school, areas of strength and areas where improvement can be made. It's also a great opportunity to ask your child’s teacher any questions that you might have regarding their learning.
