Prep Enrolments 2024

The new statewide enrolment timeline provides Victorian government primary schools with clear timeframes for enrolling students who will commence Prep (Foundation) in the 2024 school year.

This is the first time that schools will use a statewide timeline for enrolments into the Foundation year. The timeline seeks to support schools and families by making the Foundation enrolment process simpler, clearer and fairer.

Schools can receive enrolment applications from parents/carers from the start of Term 2, 2023.

Enrolment applications from parents/carers are to be submitted by Friday, 28 July 2023.

Schools notify parents/carers of the outcome of enrolment applications by Friday, 11 August 2023.

Written appeals from parents/carers are to be lodged with schools by Friday, 25 August 2023.

Schools notify parents/carers in writing of the outcome of appeals by Friday, 15 September 2023.

Please refer to the following website for enrolment boundaries for government schools.

I encourage HPS families and extended community to communicate this new timeline to perspective families and if requiring further information, please call the school on

High Abilities Programs @ Hillsmeade

VICTORIAN HIGH ABILITIES PROGRAM (VHAP)

VHAP consists of ten-week online courses in Mathematics and English for both primary and secondary levels.  Students engage in synchronous Webex classes with their teachers.  They can also engage with the course material on VSV Online outside of class time.

Twenty-two students from Years 5 & 6 at HPS are involved in this valuable program this term.  It allows students to be challenged by expert teachers in their field and exposed to students from other schools.

MASTERCLASS

Schools in our local community have begun to work on a project named Masterclass for our high-ability students.  This work stemmed from an observed need to develop collaborative practices for many of our high-ability learners and to provide opportunities for challenging discussion and investigations for these learners to occur on a bigger scale than just individual school level.  This year’s challenge is “Be The Change”.

Students will select a global issue they strongly want to make a difference in. They will work collegiately to research, understand, and decide what they can do to make a difference at a local level. Our group has already attended the first Masterclass session, where we met students from other schools.  This group of six will continue to work on the project through weekly sessions at school and follow-up work throughout the week. This project will culminate with a presentation at Bunjil Place in late October.

Before School & After School Supervision

Please remember that student supervision by staff in the yard does not start until 8.35am. Even though the gates are open, students are not formally supervised. This also applies to after school where students are only supervised until 3.30pm.

If students are in the yard before 8.35am or after 3.30pm without parent/family supervision they should be attending our OSHC program.

We will be monitoring student arrivals and departures and may discuss supervision options with you in the coming weeks, where required.

The only exception to this is on Monday, Wednesday and Friday when we have Breakfast Club. Formal supervision commences at 8.35am, however if students are on the basketball courts near Breakfast Club, school staff are able to support students if needed. Supervision is still the responsibility of families until 8.35am.

Student Reports Semester 1

At the end of Term 2 your child's semester report will be available on Compass.  Staff are busily collecting and analysing multiple sources of data to determine exactly where your child sits along the Victorian Curriculum continuum across the various learning areas. Parent Teacher Interviews at the end of Term 3 will then discuss the progress from semester one's report and what is to be a focus for your child throughout Term 4.
